Model Shipways James Cannon Guns Of History - 6 Pounder Model 1841, 1/16, MS4007

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Very well detailed, large scale model of mainly cast Britannia metal components, only a few wooden parts, accurately detailed gun barrel, scale water bucket, sponge & rammer rods, scoop & handle, worm & handle and more. Includes detailed instructions. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. This is the excellent Marine Model Company kit that has been greatly improved and revised by Ken Goldman and Model Shipways. The model 1841 cannon was a lightweight and fairly mobile (900 pound) gun used extensively during the Mexican war. A large number of these 6 pounders existed at the outbreak of the US Civil War and were pressed into service on both sides. However, rifled barrels were coming into their own which greatly increased the range. The Model 1841 was quickly outclassed; however, the government decided to convert these smoothbores into rifled weapons. This gave them a new lease on life as range and accuracy were both greatly improved. The barrels were rebored from 3.67" to 3.8" and rifled in the 'James' fashion to accept the patented projectiles designed by General Charles T. James.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

Still factory sealed but the seal has drawn the box top concave as shown. The original kit is from the 1960s but this is a mid 1970s issue judging from the barcode. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, markings for US Mail aircraft, detailed full size plans, building instructions, hardware, wheels, colored tissue and propeller. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Lindberg 1961 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 - 2 Door Hardtop, 1/25, 72163

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

The 1961 Chevy 409 is the car that everyone heard about but hardly anyone saw. Only 142 409 CID engines were produced in 1961. Popularized by the Beach Boy's song and numerous race wins, it is counted as one of the first muscle cars since it has a high displacement engine in a (relatively) light weight body. The 409 was a late-year production option intended to replace (and correct the faults) of the 348 V-8. Although it looked like a "W" block 348, it was not and differed internally and by casting numbers. Because of the late roll-out and the delay in obtaining the desired cylinder heads, many '61 409s were sent out the factory door with the high performance 348 cylinder heads (from the 3x2 carb configuration. It worked well, but as a result few '61 409s ended up with the intended heads. Not all '61 409s were SS (Super Sport) models. There were about 453 SS kits made vs. 142 409s. Some SSs were factory installed but many are thought to be dealer installed; they were mainly put on the 2DR HT, but a SS Convertible was found in a junkyard back in the early 1990s and documented to be original (shockingly, it has the original 409 in it also). 1961 409 attrition was severe, as many if not most were raced. Although a good engine, it was far from perfect and that did not help. It is believed that 6 remain of the 142 made. The block was altered for the '62 409 and new casting numbers were used, making the '61 409 castings and numbers unique to that year. The actual kit is from 1996 and one of Lindberg's finest efforts. Very well detailed and features a full 409 engine with correct factory fuel set up (4 bbl and dual snorkel air clearer), correct Muncie four speed manual transmission, good engine compartment detail, opening hood with scale hinges, detailed chassis with separately molded springs, front and rear suspension, drive shaft and complete exhaust, full interior with the correct 4 speed 61-only shifter plate, separately molded chrome door handles, fender ornaments, windshield wipers, SS spinners and an extensive decal set that covers from the valve covers to the speedometer and individual instrument faces. Molded in white, clear, red-tint clear, chrome plate and with rubber tires. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Very rare 1957 issue with the K4 kit number and 1957 copyright date and old artwork. The sales success of the Knight prompted Aurora to launch an entire line of figure kits. The knights themselves stayed in production long after many other figures were discontinued.

Aurora Silver Knight of Augsburg 1560 Valiant Warriors - Crown Issue, 1/8, K1-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Very rare 2nd 'Crown' issue. This issue is dated 1956, but is from 1957 judging from the new 'Famous Fighters' oval logo and the fact that 'CROWN' is moved up to the top, just below 'Aurora.' Inside, the kit is also correct for the second issue. The instructions still say 'Copyright 1956 Crow Plastics, Inc Princeton, New Jersey' and the oval 'Famous Fighters' logo from the box top is on the instructions as well. Molded in a beautiful gloss silver and with a feather plume. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. In the mid 1950s, Crown Plastics advertised the release of a series of Knight models - some of the very first figure kits. However, before Crown entered production, Aurora marketed the line for Crown in 1956- the first issue of this kit (this is the second issue). The first issue had a copyright on the instructions as 'Crown Plastics, Inc Princeton, New Jersey'. These were the first Aurora Knights ever issued and Aurora gave them the kit numbers K1-98, K2-98 and K3-98. These were the very first Aurora figure kits. The knights sold well, and Aurora bought the three 'Knight' molds from Crown Plastics within the year. The first issue had the early Aurora 'Northern Lights' rectangular logo has the correct 'Crown Line' logo inside it.
