Pyro Auburn 1935 Supercharged 851 Boattail Speedster, 1/25, 228

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare true first issue with the 'black' box style, beautiful art and woodgrain sides - it even includes the bathing beauty shown on the box top. Features detailed engine, hinging/opening hood, good interior detail and five piece scale woman driver. Molded in gloss deep red plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This was one of Pyro's first car kits. On the side, there are color illustrations of the Lincoln Continental, Duesenburg Roadster J, Cord Convertible and Pierce Silver Arrow. Interestingly, the Duesenburg and Pierce Arrow in 1/24 scale were projected; for one reason or another Pyro never cut the molds so they were never issued. The '35 Auburn weighed 4200 lbs. and was one of the few cars of that time to have hydraulic brakes. Power came from a 150hp (@4000) supercharged engine with three inch exhaust pipes that easily sped the car to over 100 mph. Ab Jenkins set a record with a stock issue 851 at Bonneville Salt Flats in July of 1935, and became the first one to pilot a stock car for over 12 hours at an average of over 100 mph.

Pyro 1932 Chrysler Imperial 8 Cylinder Roadster, 1/32, C411-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1966 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of it's kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. The model includes rubber tires, chrome plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts. Features detailed chassis with suspension, steering linkage and gas tank, complete motor and interior, spoked wheels, removable hood and dual mount rear spares. NOTE: this kit has minor and neat assembly. The hood halves and body halves are assembled to 'professional' quality; they fit to the frame, body and each other perfectly. The wheel halves are glued to 'pro' quality as well. There is no other assembly and zero painting. The front brake drums are broke from the axle but present and can be repaired. The manifold is broke, but all parts are present so it can be repaired. Missing one rumble seat step. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts present including instructions.

Revell 1910 Model T Ford Factory Display With The Original Box - Built Up With Case - Highway Pioneers, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Very rare and even more so with the original shipping box. This is a Revell-factory built display built for hobby shop promotional use around 1954. The intention was simple- if hobby shops would purchase and display these attractively built displays, potential buyers would see them and immediately purchase the kit. This probably worked well; but the hitch was that these displays were expensive for the 1950s, so few hobby shops could afford them. And once in public, there was heavy attrition; parts easily broke, and when the new kits came out next year, they were thrown away to make room for more. Which makes condition of this one even more exceptional. The actual model is very neatly built and Revell factory airbrushed. You can always tell the Revell-built models by the airbrushing and the way the parts were masked. It is 100% complete and has no breaks and no repairs. Even the base, etched gold name of the car and 'jewel case' cover are in excellent condition. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

NOTE: due to the very large sheets, this kit will be shipped rolled up in a tube unless you request otherwise. From Wikipedia: After a very active career as the French ocean liner Pasteur, she was acquired by North German Lloyd and renamed TS Bremen in 1957, she was extensively rebuilt at Bremer Vulkan in Bremen for approximately 65 millions DM. Her size was increased to 32,336 GRT and the load-carrying capacity with 8,700 tdw. She received new boilers and four turbines with a maximum output of 60,000 HP rendering a maximum speed of 26 knots. Economical output of 53,500 HP gave a very useful speed of 23 knots. Three 1,375 KVA generators had an output of 6,600 kilowatt. One very noticeable change was the new drop-shaped funnel, which was much more in proportion with the ship than the original tall funnel. To enhance comfort, two 4,50 m Stabilizers were fitted. In June 1959, she underwent new sea trials. The ship was very popular. She was sold January of 1972. After another refit, which changed her tonnage to 23,801 tons, the TSS Regina became the flagship of Chandris Cruises and inaugurated her Mediterranean service, calling at Limassol for the first time on May 19 and taking passengers from Cyprus to Beirut, Haifa, Heraklion, Piraeus, Katakolon, Corfu, Dubrovnik and Venice. Regina continued calling at Limassol regularly every two weeks and her cruises became extremely popular. She cruised the world until 1974, when she was laid up in Piraeus because of rising fuel costs and the loss of emigration charters to Australia. She later sank while being towed to the breakers.
