Aurora Messerschmitt Me-109 (Bf-109) - Blue Short Box Ends- Famous Fighters of All Nations, 1/48, 55A-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM-

Sold

I believe this is the 4th edition of this kit, and the first issue with this Jim Cox boxart. Dates from mid 1955 with small 'Aurora Line' rectangular logo and 'Famous Fighters of All Nations'. It is interesting that this issue did not carry the standard Aurora 'Northern Lights' logo for 1956 - perhaps it was designed at the end of 1955 and simply left that way. Correctly molded in metallic burgundy and clear with the correct rectangular clear stand. For this issue the factory changed the swastikas on the tail to iron crosses and decals as well. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

On January 10, 1945, Hitler held a conference during which the staff discussed ways that the Luftwaffe could restore a degree of air superiority. During this discussion, Hitler suggested to Goering that the 50mm cannon be installed in a '262 so that it could open fire at longer ranges with more telling results. Two different cannon were examined; the Mauser Mk214A was chosen over the Rheinmetall Borsig BK5 and was installed in Me-262 W.Nr. 111899. The aircraft made the first flight in February of 1945. The pilot, Herget, flew the craft in practice against ground target then actually flew to operational missions against a US bomber formation. On both occasions the gun jammed. A second aircraft was built, but it likely did not fly before the end of the war. American forces captured this second aircraft (named 'Wilma Jeanne and then 'Happy Hunter II') but it crashed while being flown to France. The decals furnished are for that second prototype.

Type three logo issue from the 1960s. Zeros press in close to score hits on a formation of TBFs as Avenger gunners score back. Execuform Abrams PC-4 (P-1) Explorer Photo Aircraft, 1/72

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare and the only model of this aircraft. The American Mr. Talbert Abrams had founded an airline in 1929, but became interested in aerial photography. He then created the 'Aerial Survey Corporation' and built the PC-4 (or P-1) Explorer in 1937 specifically for this work. The onset of WWII stopped this venture. There is no assembly but NOTE: many parts are cut out to professional quality - (nothing has been final sanded or fitted - there are margins on all parts). Includes a correct aftermarket resin engine and propeller. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Guillows Sopwith Camel - 28 inch Wingspan Flying Model, 801

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Big-scale kit can be built for static display or flown .049 to .15 U-Control, gas free flight or rubber power. Features quality die-cut balsa parts and stripwood, scale wheels and flexible landing gear, movable ailerons, rudder and elevator, plastic cowl and cockpit deck, scale prop, two machine guns, pilot figure, very large full color decals, covering material and more. Includes full size detailed plans. The model has not been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag; all large parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Includes decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
