Kobo-Hiryu IJN Survey Ship Katsuriki 1942, 1/700, R03

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Very rare limited production model of this active IJN Auxiliary. Very well detailed resin waterline model that includes full illustrated instructions and even a painting guide. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags. The Katsuriki had a very interesting and long career. She was originally completed in 1917 as minelayer, and the first ocean going ship of this type in the Japanese Navy. In WWI she served around the Japanese home islands. In the 1920s she was guardship off many of the South Pacific Mandate Islands and began doing survey work of these new Japanese territories. With expansionist policies already in place, the need for a specialized survey ship was obvious and in 1935 she was converted to that role. The minelaying equipment was removed and surveying devices from the retired survey ship Manshu were installed. She took part in much intelligence gathering off the coast of China, then examined future targets for the Imperial Navy before WWII. Some areas she visited included the Spratly Islands, Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands and also Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands. When World War II started, Katsuriki was re-designated a 'secret military vessel' on 20 July 1942, although her mission was still maritime surveying. She mapped the coasts of the Strait of Malacca, Burma, Singapore, the Dutch East Indies and north coast of New Guinea in support of Japanese troop landings and combat operations. On 21 September 1944 Katsukiki was torpedoed by USS Haddo southwest of Manila and sank. The Haddo spotted about 40 survivors and attempted to rescue, but the Japanese chose to drown themselves.

Aurora Bell AH-1G Huey Cobra - Assault Helicopter - Rectangle Box Issue, 1/48, 501

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Big 'A' logo issue is dated 1972 and this is likely the fourth issue of this kit. In the late 1960s Aurora realized that the older molds were out of date and modelers were demanding more realism. They made a new set of molds for ships, airplanes and helicopters. These were significant improvements as the new molds were on par with current offerings. This Cobra kit is one of the improved models. Features full cockpit, pilot and copilot figures, rotating main and rear rotors and optional weapons load of miniguns or rocket pods. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one part, a horizontal stabilizer. The other one is present to use as a pattern. Otherwise includes all other parts, decals and instructions.

UPC Phantom II - McDonnell F4H-1 (F-4C) - USAF / US Navy VF-74 USS Forrestal / VF-102 USS Enterprise / US Marines VMFA-531 Or VMFA-513, 1/50, 5090-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

NOTE: excellent builder only, please read carefully for the condition. This kit represents somewhat of a mystery. We know that UPC did not make any of their own tooling, but the mold origin of this kit are unknown. The box re-uses the same Scott Edison box art from the smaller-scale UPC (ex-Hasegawa) F-4. The dramatic box art claims this is a F-4C; however, the instructions state that it is an F-4H-1 or F-4B. Since they are a copy of the original manufacturers instructions, I believe the instructions. The kit is interesting for it's level of detail and features the fuselage internal fuel tanks, two detailed jet engines, cockpit includes ejection seats, two pilots, side instrument panels, control stick & main panels and opening front and rear canopies. Rudders, ailerons, split trailing edge flaps and elevators all move and the wings fold as well. There are internal wing fuel tanks; the landing gear retracts and all gear doors close also. The nose can be removed to display a detailed radar package. A wide choice of wing and fuselage loadouts is provided, with numerous AIM-7 Sparrow missiles (body mounted and on wing pylons), iron bombs and a centerline drop tank. This is the issue with the expanded (and very large and colorful) decal sheet offering one US Air Force, two US Navy and two US Marine options. NOTE: this kit has very neat and minor sub-assembly as follows: internal fuel tank halves (2 pieces), engine halves (4 pieces) and nose halves (2 pieces) are assembled to 'near mint' condition. The parts have been inventoried and NOTE: missing (3) of (4) #b10, which are main strut holders. The gear rotates and retracts using b10. All other parts are present with decals and instructions. NOTE: the instructions are photocopies. No decal transfers are missing, but one transfer is a partial. One (of two) Navy '3 red diamonds' is missing two of the diamonds.
