Large 1/8 scale model is molded gloss dark blue and includes the plume. The Aurora Knight kits have a fascinating history. In the mid 1950s, Aurora bought three 'Knight' molds from Crown Plastics and issued them as K1, K2 and K3. These were the very first Aurora figure kits and they sported the 1956-only rectangular 'Northern Lights' logo with the correct 'Crown Line' logo inside it. The sales success of the Knight prompted Aurora to launch an entire line of figure kits. The knights themselves stayed in production long after many other figures were discontinued.

Monogram Speedee-Bilt Vought F4U-5 Corsair - Flying Scale Model - (F4U5), G14-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Rare and highly prefabricated scale rubber powered wood flying model from the early 1950s. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa and sometimes a detail part or two. These "Make Wood Look Like Plane" models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually RC). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufacturers sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This raised prices, naturally. Many manufacturers launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original "Speedee-Bilt" kits were in one-piece two-color boxes. In the early 1950s, shortly before plastic kits were available, Monogram changed to the 'hardbox' with a lithographic slick glued to the top as this kit. This Speedee-Bilt Corsair features die-cut and pre painted blue wooden parts, completely formed airfoil wing (the famous "Monofoil"), fully carved wooden fuselage nose section, carved and painted wheels, plastic front cowling with engine front, pilot, machine guns & four bladed propeller, clear vacuform canopy (still mint and perfectly clear- no yellowing), fully formed wire landing gear struts, rubber motor, full decals, sand paper, covering tissue (also blue) and more. The instructions are detailed and highly illustrated. Never started. Inside, the kit is as it left the factory. The small parts are still sealed in the original wax paper bag. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The decals and instructions are in 'excellent' condition with light to moderate yellowing as the only flaw. There is even a small catalog showing the entire Speedee-Bilt line at this time as well as Monogram's first plastic kits.

The kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans. The four sides of the box as well as the two large end flaps are intact but NOTE: the box is missing the tiny end flaps and is fairly flat as shown. The box and plans do not mention any insignia sheet and there is not one present.

Monogram Speedee-Bilt Curtiss P-40F Warhawk - Flying Scale Model Airplane, G15-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Rare second issue from 1957 in a two-piece hardbox. This model is in amazing investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition inside and out for the advanced Monogram collector. This is a completely pre-fabricated multi-media kit featuring pre-colored and die cut balsa wood, precarved balsa, finished Monofoil wing, plastic detail parts (such as cowl, three bladed prop and spinner, pilot bust, exhaust, wheels and more), clear vacuform canopy (in mint condition and not yellowed), sandpaper, tissue covering and rubber motor. Designed for rubber free flight or scale display. Never started and as new inside. Inventoried 100% complete with all wood and plastic parts, decals and instructions. Speedee-Bilt kits contained die cut and pre painted wooden parts, completely formed airfoil wings, carved wheels and numerous plastic details like cowling, pilot, missiles, prop and whatever was required. Assembly was by detailed full size plans and instructions. Monogram carried the Speedee-Bilt line for several years past it's prime and the advent of plastic kits, a testimony to the quality and popularity.

Cleveland Mile Fliers Flemish Defiance - 32 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model Aircraft, C-2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Early World War II stick-and-tissue flying model aircraft. This was one of the six Cleveland "C" Tribute Series in the Mile Fliers Outdoor Contest Model series. This model, 'Flemish Defiance', is a tribute to the brave Belgian Dutch. The other kits were a tribute to Czechoslovakia, Holland, Scandinavia, Poland and Austria. Features balsa printwood, pre-cut stringers and spars, covering tissue, thrust bearing, full size plans and more. Because they were wartime kits, often the rubber, cement and music wire were not present as these were critical war materials. The model has not been started. It has been inventoried and NOTE: missing propeller blank. Otherwise complete with all other parts and plans. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
