Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

Sold

Length was 12 feet long and the warhead was atomic. The Dart was a very early wire guided anti-tank missile with a solid propellant rocket motor. It was five feet long. An optical rangefinder was used for guidance. The models these are well detailed. The Dart includes four missiles, one launcher, three stands, decals, one optical guidance unit and a crew of three. The Little John includes a detailed launcher with elevating rails, movable support legs, decals and crew of three. The Little John has never been started. It is inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present but NOTE: several parts are a darker shade of green plastic than the others. Revell Ringo Starr The Beatles - The Wildest Skins In Town, 1/8, H1351-150

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare. 1964 original issue of Ringo of the Fab Four. When the Beatles made it big, everyone wanted a piece of the action and Revell was no exception. They acquired a license and quickly produced four 1/8 scale kits: Ringo, George, Paul and John - and the rest is history. Ringo measures 7 inches tall and includes separately molded drum sticks, drum, drum stand and the stool he sits on. This one is never started and 100% complete, including 'near mint' condition instructions. The box has very good color and gloss, four solid corners, no repairs, no fading, no water stains or water marks and was sold new for $1.35 at Hudson's Department Store in Detroit (from the price sticker on the short top side). The box would grade slightly better, but there are litho tape pulls on the long box sides. On the left there are two which are 1.5" x 3/8" each and on the right long side there is one 1" long by 1/2 inch (average). Please note that Richard Starkey (his original name) must be shipped insured.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very nicely molded kit for that time with fine recessed and raised panel lines and excellent fit. NOTE: this kit has 'professional' quality subassembly as follows: wing tip halves assembled (4 parts total) and bomb shackles (2) to lower wing. There is no other assembly. Hawk Skykray F4-D Picture Gallery, 1/72, 708-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare issue from the 1950s from the 'Picture Gallery' series. Includes the correctly early decals and the green tinted canopy. Bill Campbell explained to me that the artist producing the Picture Gallery series artwork had a heart attack and could not finish the assignment. Hawk had to switch artist in a hurry, and that is how Bill found his way to Hawk. Bill did the art from that point forward, making the limited issue PG boxes very desirable for collectors. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the instruction sheet is a quality photocopy of the original. NOTE: the box is only graded 'good' because there is significant bug damage on the side panels. The bugs ate away some of the litho but left the heavy cardboard behind it.

Aurora Douglas M2 Mailplane - (M-2), 1/48, 111-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

First issue with classic Joe Kotula artwork dated 1957. The kit is a very good depiction of this rare mail plane and is molded in a beautiful burgundy, black and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. This is the very first issue as evidenced by the error in the instructions. Jim Cox left out the clear windshield; so a small addendum sheet was added to the kit, showing the placement of the part. This aircraft has a fascinating history. From the internet: The United States Post Office had been running the air mail service since 1918 mainly using variants of the de Havilland DH.4 biplane. In 1925, it decided to modernize and placed an order with Douglas for a replacement aircraft based on the Douglas O-2 observation biplane. The company modified an O-2 by covering over the forward cockpit to make a mail compartment and moving the pilot into what had been the observer's cockpit. The aircraft was designated the DAM-1 (Douglas Air-Mail-One) but this was soon shortened to M-1. The M-1 used the same Liberty engine as the DH.4, which was available in large numbers. Small modifications were made to the exhaust system to keep fumes away from the pilot and the design was considered a success, but was not ordered into production. When the Contract Air Mail (CAM) routes were introduced, the newly formed Western Air Express Company (later Western Airlines) ordered six mailplanes with the designation M-2. The main change from the M-1 was that the tunnel radiator was replaced with a frontal type. It also had the provision to carry a passenger instead of mail in the front cockpit. Just before Western Air Express introduced the aircraft into service (in April 1926 from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City), the Post Office ordered 50 aircraft designated M-3 for its major route network. The M-3 had only detailed differences from the M-2.

Aurora Piper Cherokee 180, 1/72, 281-70

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

1968 issue of the very popular Piper light aircraft. After Aurora purchased the Comet molds, they reissued the Comet civil light aircraft line. It appears that Aurora may have been inspired by the Comet kits or sales of the reissues, and they produced several more new molds to add to the line. This 180 is one of those models. Since the kit was designed new, it has significantly more detail than the older Comet kits. Features all recessed panel lines, full interior with a sofa, two seats and instrument panel, clear windows and rotating propeller. NOTE: this kit has 'professional' quality subassembly as follows: seats and instrument panel glued to the floor. There is no other assembly. Guillows Supermarine Spitfire - Flying Aircraft Model, 50-10

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Still factory sealed. Rare stick-and-tissue model dated 1954. This was part of Guillow's extensive '50' line of models with wingspans between 16 and 24 inches. These were very advanced kit for their day, featuring all die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, plastic cowl and wheels, completely finished wheels and thrust button, plastic prop, metal prop shaft, covering tissue and superb plans with numerous construction details. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
