Airfix Boeing 314 Pan Am Clipper - Dixie or BOAC Berwick, 1/144, 04172-6

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very finely molded and well detailed. Includes decals for both aircraft listed. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats.

StromBecker North American F-86 Sabre Jet - Flip Top Box Issue, C44-69

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

1950s one-piece 'flip top' box issue. Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood, preshaped model manufacturer. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are quality hardwood (not balsa) and are smooth precarved to final shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. When complete it makes an impressive desk top display. Features original glue and sandpaper, clear plastic canopy, special Strombecker 'teardrop' display stand and extensive full color decals. Never started. 100% complete with all parts, decals and detailed plans, instructions. Please NOTE that the box displays better than the 'good-' grade; it is graded as such due to closed corner tears and a 1.5 x 1 missing litho section on the box back.

Pyro Burmese Paddy Boat, 1/45, 318-89

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Hard to find model from the late 1950s with great box art by Howard W. Arnold. The Pyro company chose many of it's kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Paddy is molded in light blue & yellow and features all deck houses and fittings, two figures, vacuform billowing sails (in 'mint' condition), hanging lanterns, rigging instructions and a display stand. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Features moving ailerons, elevators and rudder, 'good' cockpit, pilot figure, clear windscreen, rotating wheels & propeller and more. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the box has small (.8" x .25") tear from the factory tape on the lower long side.

Aurora Grumman F6F Hellcat - Famous Fighters of All Nations, 1/48, 40A-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

Sold

Third issue of this rare kit. Oddly enough, this one is the rarest of them all. The box is in remarkable 'Excellent++' condition with like-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no repairs, no tears or missing litho, no tape or tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape, of course), no price tags or tag marks, no fading and no stains. The flaws are general very light edge wear. The 4 box sides are in the same condition as the top; the box tray (bottom box) is in 'near mint' condition. The box top is copyrighted 1956, but this issue is from 1957 for the debut of the new logo. For this release, Aurora kept the original issue box art but with these changes from the second issue: the old logo was replaced with the 'Famous Fighters' Sunburst Oval on a yellow rectangle background and the white 'price circle' was removed. The kit is molded in the correct beautiful metallic dark blue and clear and has the early rectangular clear display stand, correct decals and correct instructions. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.
