Western Aircraft Mfg Co Dragon-Fly 14 Inch Flying Airplane - 1932 Completely Prefabricated Ready To Fly

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Very rare flying model from 1932 that is in exceptional investment-grade condition. Any flying model from the 1930s is rare, but the prefabricated ones are almost never come up. The Dragon-Fly is advertised as "Not A Constructions Set But A Finished Airplane Guaranteed To Fly." It weighs only one-quarter of an ounce and "Will Stand Nearly Any Collision Without Damage." This is a "Rise Off Ground Type for Indoor and Outdoor Use." Features finished and painted main motor 'stick' with installed metal rubber hooks, assembled tissue covered wings with correct airfoil built in (and USAAF insignia applied), horizontal and vertical stabilizers that are tissue covered, an amazingly thin & completely finished wooden propeller with metal rubber motor hook, factory finished wheels, the original rubber band (in many pieces, but present) and highly detailed, illustrated instructions with extensive flying notes and even maintenance tips.

The plans are very highly detailed and well drawn and include top, side, back and front elevations, detailed construction sub-assembly drawings, hull templates, paint guide and text instructions also. Never started and inventoried 100% complete. Please note the box is poor but the kit inside is in 'excellent' condition. Rare kit from 1942. This is a scale, solid wood kit. C&S MC2 Metal Clad Blimp US Navy ZMC-2 - 9.87 Inches Long, 1/181

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Rare 1930s model of this early US Navy Blimp. The ZMC-2 (Zeppelin Metal Clad 200,000 cubic foot capacity was the only successfully operated metal-skinned airship ever built. She was built at Naval Air Station Grosse Ile by The Aircraft Development Corporation of Detroit. ZMC-2 was operated from 1929 to 1941 by the U.S. Navy at Lakehurst, New Jersey base. She was scrapped in 1941. During her service ZMC-2 completed 752 flights for 2265 hours of flight time. This model was made by C&S Model Company, Trenton, New Jersey. They had quite a line of airships as I have seen their adds in very old Model Airplane News magazines. This kit has stick and tissue construction and features printwood, stock wood parts, stringers, blocks, covering tissue and full size plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and paperwork included. Please note that the plans have bug damage but they are certainly good enough to use if you wish to build the model.

Maircraft Curtiss P-40 - Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/48, S13

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, fuselage that is about 80% cut in the x,y and z axis, profile cut parts, printwood and a small bag of details. The model has not been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag and the larger parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete with all paperwork. Please note, the insignia for this kit is Chinese markings only.

F&B 1953 Chrysler Custom Imperial - Four Door Sedan - Wood And Metal Model, 1/25

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare model from F&B Model Aircraft. In about 1953, F&B decided to branch out and produced at least three car kits - this '53 Imperial, a Jaguar XK120 and a Nash Rambler Convertible. The Imperial model measured out fairly close to 1/25 or 1/24 scale and features die cut balsa wood, pre-cut balsa blocks, wood stock as required, stamped aluminum bumpers, grill, bumper guards, emblems, tail lights, head lights, hubcaps and door handles, plastic steering wheel, completely finished rubber wheels, die-cut clear windows and light lenses and a large fold-out, highly illustrated step-by-step instruction sheet. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes all paperwork. This kit is for modelers experienced in building all-wood kits from the 1940s and 1950s. It is not for beginners and scratch building skills are a must. F&B was located in Denver, Colorado.

Trains Outside Braced Automobile Car - Rock Island - (Box Car) - Wooden Model, 1/64

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very rare and dated 1937. Cleveland had their own extensive line of model railroad kits in the 1930s. They were excellent models but Mr. Packard chose the nonstandard 1/64 as the scale. I had seen Cleveland trains in the catalogs but this is first one I have found in 24 years of looking. Inside, it is a kit of typical high Cleveland quality. Features highly detailed plans with numerous drawings and text instructions, full color litho wrap for the car sides, roof and ends, a factory sealed bag of C-D Trucks, a factory sealed envelope of small parts, high-quality, factory cut hardwood roof (to the correct shape), floor, ends and other parts, wood and metal stock as required and more. Never started. The small parts and trucks are still factory sealed. The parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete including all paperwork. Please NOTE: there is a rough tear in the color wrap but it is complete.

The tank car is missing (2) of RD4 and RD5 - these are walkway parts which can be easily made from scrap wood. The box car has the decorative cardstock ends cut out and is missing one axle. The caboose is missing one coupler (which is nothing but a steel eyebolt, available at hardware stores). Otherwise the kit is complete and includes all sets of instructions and cardstock color decorations.

Strombecker Martin B-26 Medium Bomber - Spotter Model Series, 1/72, S-50

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare 1940s wartime 'Spotter Model' in the 'National Defense Model Series.' Strombecker specifically made this line of 1/72 scale kits to fit the 'Official National Spotter or Recognition Program' for civilians and the armed forces for training and identification. This is a high quality, highly prefabricated kit of western pine hardwood. The parts are almost completely carved - only final sanding is needed! Includes perfectly carved and smooth fuselage, perfect and completely finished engine nacelles, wings cut and carved to shape including airfoil, all other parts cut to shape (and many of them completely finished), a factory sealed envelope including the smaller parts, full color insignia sheet, Strombecker Model Makers Club Application Form, CASCO glue, two types of sandpaper, color "How To Win The War" sheet and extensive & detailed assembly instructions. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes insignia and instructions.

Minicrafters Republic Seabee - Solid Wood Model, 1/48, M-4

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

This is an above-average, large-scale kit from the 1945. Features a very nice x, y and z axis profile-cut fuselage, factory-cut wings with airfoil, precut horizontal and vertical stabilizers, completely finished wheels, balsa stock, sandpaper, printed cardstock template sheet (with 11 templates), sealed metal tube of glue and excellent plans that include three view drawings, exploded view, another drawing that is a painting guide with color notes, detailed step-by-step text instructions and a very nice history of the aircraft. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes all paperwork. Little is know about "Minicrafters Of Baltimore." Beyond the home town, one could judge that they had quite the line of 1/48 scale models since this one was likely #4 from the part number 'M-4.'

Comet USS Gridley DD380 Destroyer, J6

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Late 1930s or early 1945 issue. Almost everyone has heard of the Comet flying aircraft kits that boys and men built from stick and tissue, but few know that Comet had a line of ships also. Very nicely done wooden kit that measures 12 inches long when assembled. The hull had been very neatly factory machine cut to the overhead (beam) dimensions only. Also includes two sheets of printwood, solid, long balsa blocks for the superstructure, mast and gun barrel material, rigging material, decals and full size plans. The plans are superior to most ship plans of the day with 3 hull sections, full size top and side drawings, illustrated instructions and a very large number of detail drawings. The decals are in amazing 'excellent++' condition and were not issued with the wartime kits. The large sheet includes the correctly-shaded hull numbers, hull portholes, superstructure square windows and even doors. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts.

Cadet Aeronautics Focke-Wulf FW-190 - Solid Wood Model, 1/72, F-3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

This is an above-average kit from the 1945. Features a very nice profile cut fuselage, profile cut wings, printwood for other wooden parts, finished wheels, metal and wood stock, an excellent cardstock sheet with wheel covers and many constructions aids:, nose jig, dihedral jig, wing jig, rudder jig and stabilizer jig...and even an alignment stick to mount them on. There is a full insignia sheet for this aircraft and the plans are exceptional. They include three view drawings, exploded view, many wing, tail and fuselage cross sections, illustrated building instructions, text instructions and a history of the aircraft. Little is known about Cadet Aeronautics. The address was given as Trenton, N.J and it was a 'Division of Winner Engineering Corp.' There were at least 6 kits in the 1/72 WWII single engine line: F1 Republic Thunderbolt, F2 Grumman Hellcat, F3 Focke-Wulf 190, F4 Hawker Typhoon, F5 Supermarine Spitfire and F6 North American Mustang. There could have been other lines as well.
