Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Keystone Commuter - Midget Craft 6 inch wingspan Solid Balsa Airplane Model

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very old 1932 issue from Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Company. Ideal was one of the first US model airplane producers, starting their business in 1911. During the early years of the Great Depression, Ideal switched to balsa wood and soon released a line of 'Six Inch Wingspread' solid scale models in a line called 'Ideal Midget-Craft'. Adds for this line can be seen in Model Airplane News and other major popular aircraft publications of the 1930s. The models included plans and the required wood-they usually retailed for about 10 cents. This aircraft has been started, which in this case is good news. The fuselage from Ideal was simply wooden stock. The original builder has carved the fuselage very accurately and correctly to about 90% finished. He has done the same quality of work to the upper wings and has carefully cut out the other parts. The model is complete and would be easy to finish.

Carl Goldberg Models Ranger 21 - 21 inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model, D3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

From the mid 1960s. An excellent kit that is highly prefabricated - no tissue covering is used. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag; all other parts have been inventoried complete. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. Needless to say, Goldberg's models are of the highest quality.
