Pyro British Bomb Ketch, C256-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Dated 1966. Full hull kit with very good molded detail, pre-molded ratlines, detailed deck, billowing sails and display stand. Measures just over 9.5 inches inches long when assembled. Molded in swirl wood tan and off-white. The box drawing serves as a rigging diagram. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The British Bomb Ketch was often called 'a ship without a foremast'. A heavily padded well was built into the deck in place of the usual foremast. A heavy mortar was tied down into this well. These ships were used to bombard shore installations that smaller cannons had no effect on. The bombs weight about 200 pounds as compared to the usual 48 pounds from the largest naval guns of the time. The entire ship was aimed to fire the mortar. The mortar first used in this type vessel was used until the second world war with very little change in design except for the the controls and firing mechanism. This is one of the 'intermediate' line of Pyro ship kits, which in 1966 Pyro called '$1.00 Models'. All were roughly the same size and were a significant increase in detail from the '50 Cent Models'. Kits in the $1.00 line in '66 included the Skipjack, Cutty Sark, Charles W. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box - in this case, a Renault at the Montagu Motor Museum in England. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated, blue and clear parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood or 'bonnet.' The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. WSW SMS Blucher Cruiser, 1/700, WSW700-37

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare model of a great subject. Finely cast from high-definition resin and superior in detail to injection molding. The main hull and larger parts are resin and there is round brass stock in various diameters for the masts and yards as well. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. WSW stood for 'Wings Ships and Wheels' and all production was in Germany. To ship modelers world-wide they are best know for their superb line of 1/700 models, many of which are still the only kit available for that subject. The Blucher was built to compete with the Invincible-class battlecruisers. Unfortunately, the German intelligence on the Invincibles was wrong, and Blucher was built as a large protected cruiser. This hybrid ended up being larger and overmatched for any other cruiser, but unable to stand in the main battleline. Blucher saw a great deal of action early in the war with the High Seas Fleet. However, the Germans were not quite sure how to deploy her, as she ended up in the Battlecruiser Squadron at Dogger Bank. She was already slightly slower than Hipper's main ships (Seydlitz, Moltke and Derfflinger) as was a full 4 knots slower than the pursuing British in Lion. Blucher quickly ended up in the van and was quickly outgunned by the superior British force. These hits slowed her further. Hipper decided to leave her to save the more valuable battlecruisers. Blucher sank with a great loss of life.

Ikko Battleship of Nagamasa Yamada, 1/150, 221

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very, very rare Japanese kit that is not even listed in Burn's guide. From the late 1960s. 'IM' was a slogan used by Ikko. This is an excellent model for that time with very good detail. Features full hull, detailed deck houses & fittings, cutter with oars, separately molded masts and yards, furled sails, preformed ratlines, display stand, large wood-grained display base, name plate decals, full color flags, rigging material & rigging diagram and more. Molded in wood brown, white (sails), black and gold plate. Measures about 10 inches long when assembled. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Burns Guide to plastic models only listed one historic sailing vessel by Ikko: the sailing 'Battleship of Shogunate Hideyoshi Toyotomi.' However, I assume that Japanese modelers have known all along. As a matter of fact, this box lists Hideyoshi and Yamada's ships as part of a series of kits of historic Japanese ships. Ikko ended production in the late 1960s.
