Fine Molds Kugisho R2Y1 18-Shi Experimental Navy Reconnaissance Plane Keiun, 1/72, FP9

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare. This an excellent injection molded model that features all fine recessed surface detail, 'good' cockpit with two crew stations, detailed gear wells and more. Includes a painting guide and full decals. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. From the website www.daveswarbirds.com: The Yokosuka R2Y Keiun ("Beautiful Cloud") was designed to be long-range high-speed land-based reconnaissance aircraft whose superior speed would hopefully prevent its interception by enemy fighters. A project with the designation R1Y1 Seiun (“Blue Cloud”) was started and resulted in a design similar to the P1Y1 Ginga bomber, but as calculated performance fell short of meeting requirements, the project had to be abandoned. A new design was started in 1943, and was designated the R2Y1. The R2Y borrowed from the German pre-war Heinkel He 119 in its use of coupled engines driving a single propeller. It also featured a tricycle undercarriage giving it an appearance similar to the Messerschmitt Me 509. Completed in April 1945, the prototype made a short flight on 8 May, but was destroyed in a US air raid only a few days later, thus ending development. A proposal was also made to develop the R2Y into a turbojet-powered light bomber by replacing its piston engines with two Ishikawajima Ne-330s. Designated the R2Y2 Keiun-Kai, the design was also begun to work on second prototype but it was never completed.

Miniature Masterpieces Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, 1/48, K502-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+

Sold

This kit was found in the stock room of a long-closed hobby shop and is in investment-grade 'Near Mint+' condition. It is the rare, early 1950s original issue that is molded in brown. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the carriage, it includes horses, the General, his lady, driver and a display base. The model includes detailed instructions (rare for the early 1950s) and a wonderful (and long) history of this particular carriage. Never started. The parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and includes mint instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare. And from J. Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in South Bend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historic horse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.
