Sterling F4U-5 Corsair Launches Rockets in Flight - 24 inch Wingspan for RC - (F4U5), A14-398

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

This kit is part of Sterling's expensive big-wingspan series that was designed for action - it actually launches rockets in flight. It can be built to fly on rubber power, gas control line or R/C and also includes numerous extra parts for control line operation or free-flight. Very nicely produced stick-and-tissue model that features high quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, other wood and metal stock as required, many light plastic detail parts, vacuformed plastic canopy, rubber motor, plastic propeller, a big set of decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started. The small parts are still factory sealed in the factory wax paper bag, and the parts that were never sealed are inventoried complete with all paperwork and decals in rare 'excellent++' condition with slight yellowing as the only flaw. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe models.

Revell American Firefighters Hose Reel - With Horses and Firemen, 1/48, F202-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Rare 1953 and the first Revell issue that features two highly detailed horses, hitch, carriage with frame detail, flexible hose, rope & metal chain, along with two firefighters and a Dalmatian dog. Molded in the correct white, red and yellow plastic. It has never been started and has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions present. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This issue is from when Revell still had the marketing agreement, as it says 'Trade Mark Copyright 1953 Marlin Toy Co. Inc' on the box top and 'Collector's Kits, Inc, Closter, N.J.' on the side.

Airfix Short Sunderland III, 1/72, 06001

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

The Sunderland's 21-year record with the RAF has made it a legend. Derived from the Empire Class Flying Boat Airliners, Sunderland IIIs had a top speed of 210 mph and an endurance of 12 hours. These qualities made the Sunderland a superb platform for North Sea and North Atlantic patrols, ASW and SAR. Crews usually loved the airplane; its large size afforded many airborne comforts that bomber or fighter crews could only dream of such as bunk, a head and an area for food preparation. Kit features beaching gear, rotating turrets with elevating guns, movable control surfaces, external bomb load and rotating props. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. NOTE: two propeller blades are neatly broken off at the hub; both blades are present so you can repair them.
