Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Good

1961 issue. Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full suspension, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss ivory, gloss black and with chrome plated parts and real rubber tires. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is exactly as it left the factory. The black parts are still in the factory sealed bags. The ivory, chrome and clear were never factory sealed and have been inventoried complete including the instructions. Please note that the radiator emblem is neatly broken off but present for a simple repair. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

Final issue box design from 1957 to the final year in 1959. Please note that the factory eliminated the old rectangular logo with a yellow triangle and put the new 'Famous Fighters' oval logo in the center. The box is in very nice 'Excellent' condition with like-new color and gloss, no price tags or tag marks, no tape or tape marks (not even factory tape marks!) and four solid corners. Flaws include very light corner wear and a very light crease at left and light impact damage on the upper short side. Rare, large scale model features working counter-rotating props and is molded in gloss silver and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The decals are 'very good++' with the only flaw being the typical yellowing and the instructions are also 'very good' with edge wear to the lower side.

The kit is dated 1958, but this is obviously a later issue as the Aurora logo does not say 'Famous Fighters' in the border and has no sunburst. The two side logos, however, do say 'Famous Fighters' on the logo. Due to the 100 price extension, it is most likely from 1960 or '61. Kit features movable rudder, elevators and wing ailerons, cockpit with pilot, seat, instrument panel, gun sight and feet stirrups, auxiliary gas tank and rotating prop and wheels. Molded in gloss dark green and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.

Still factory sealed and in remarkable 'Mint' condition. Features classic Jo Kotula artwork. The box is dated 1957 but this is roughly the third or fourth issue because of the simplified blue-border logo which means it is from about 1963/64. This is part of the famous Aurora WWI series of 1/48 scale aircraft. The series began in 1956 and Aurora added new kits into the early 1960s. The line proved incredibly popular, so these kits were included in the 'mold upgrade' in the 1970s before Aurora went out of business. Monogram even reissued a few of these kits after they purchased the Aurora molds in the late 1970s.

SALE!! Ross Abare issue Gotha in superb 'Excellent' box condition. Mr. Abare, a rare kits dealer in the earliest days (mid 1970s) of kit collecting, contracted with Aurora to produce an exact copy of the original 1958 kit, which was bringing a premium at the time. However, Aurora had the printers use the mid 1960s oval logo without the 'Famous Fighters' in the border- thus forever separating the Abare issue from the original issue. Mr. Abare was reportedly quite upset, as he wanted exact copies. The model is molded in deep burgundy and black plastic just like the 1958 issue. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Still factory sealed and in amazing investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition. Dated 1963 but is actually a mid 60s issue due to the lack of 'Famous Fighters' in the border of the box side logos. This is just one of the many incredibly successful 1/48 scale WWI aircraft kits from Aurora. A few years after settling into the new plant at West Hempstead, one of the the major projects was to launch this line in 1956. New subjects were added as late as the early 1960s. The line was so successful that many were selling right up until the end of Aurora in 1976.
