1967 hardbox issue with A.J. Rudisill artwork. This is Pyro's famous full hull, large-scale model of Admiral Dewey's flagship which still exists as a museum ship. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. NOTE: while there is no assembly, someone neatly applied a soft glue (like rubber cement) to the inside of the hull. The glue is still soft and I could pick it off with my fingernail. The glue did not melt the plastic, so the hulls are in excellent condition. Some 400 grit sandpaper would remove the glue much more efficiently than using fingernails. In addition to her more famous role in the War with Spain, Olympia went on to active service in World War I, the Allied intervention in Russia, and as flagship in the Mediterranean, 1919. She is preserved today as a museum ship and one of the very few protected cruisers left in the world.

1969 issue in the square hardbox with the Big A logo. This model was the result of Aurora's late 1960s concentrated push to produce more accurate and detailed kits. It is very highly detailed and well molded. Features full cockpit, detailed engines and rotor assembly, optional position entry doors, rotating main and rear rotors and removable mobile hospital with opening ramp and cot. Although these kits were a huge improvement over the offerings from the 1950s, they were too few and too late to save the company. From the title and especially the description on the long box side, this kit came out shortly after the all-time classic book 'The Big E' was released. It was written by Edward P. Stafford and is considered the ultimate book on the subject of what was easily America's greatest and most successful warship. If you have not read it, I highly recommend it.
