Berkeley Cessna L-19 Bird Dog - Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/12, 4-1

Big 1/12 scale model with a 36 inch wingspan. Originally designed as a gas powered model for free flight or control line, or can be converted to electric power and modern RC (radio control) gear. Features diecut celluloid windshields, all necessary hardware (factory sealed 'Perfect' 1/2A Bellcrank set, Mounting Bolt Set, Cloth Hinges and a all metal 'Perfect' gas tank), rubber wheels, shaped and notched trailing edges, two big sheets of full color fuel proof decals, diecut balsa and plywood parts, balsa blocks cut to rough shape, formed wire main and tail landing gear, metal stock and a giant plan sheet with instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The giant plan sheet has a few closed tears that have been neatly taped from the back. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Includes full rigging instructions, greatly improved wing assembly, pilot and decals for two colorful aircraft (Pilot-Lt. Paul Baumer (44 victories) or Jasta 5 'Green Tail' (pilot unknown)). The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.

The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed (chrome, clear and tires) have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. There are no tires burns on any parts and the clear is 'excellent.'

1980 issue. Very large (1/32) scale Starfighter that can be built as the USAF C or Canadian G variant. Features good cockpit, detailed landing gear and gear wells, real rubber tires, cannon bay with Vulcan gun and optional position access door, tip tanks, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, iron bomb load, choice of C or G nose probes, refueling probe, and painting guide and decals for both aircraft. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The aircraft 'Smoke II' took part in the Vietnam war, and here is the bio from Arizonawreaks.com - '1 August 1966, at the same time that Capt Kwortnik's flight was encountering intense ground fire, another flight of Starfighters was escorting F-105 Wild Weasels over Thai Nguyen when one of them suddenly turned into a ball of flame. This was assumed to be another SA-2 SAM hit, and the pilot Lt. Colonel Arthur Thomas Finney was posted as missing, later KIA (his remains were returned to the USA 14 August 1985). This aircraft was nicknamed "Smoke II" on its nose.'

First release of this great kit from 1979. Feature full interior detail and clear fuselage section. The clear fuselage is in 'excellent++' condition with only the slightest wear. NOTE: this kit has very minor assembly. The two part clamp for the ball turret has been assembled and painted. Quality of work is very good. There is no other assembly. NOTE: this kit has minor painting. The cockpit floors have one coat of silver paint on them. The coat is thin and easily painted over or stripped with any safe plastic paint stripper (like DOT3 brake fluid or spray oven cleaner). The following parts are silver and not olive drab plastic: seat supports, tail wheel bulkhead, three cockpit bulkheads and two bomb halves. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes 'excellent' decals and instructions.
