Aurora Albatross D-3 - (Albatros DIII), 1/48, 104-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$65

Rare. Please note, this is a 'Famous Fighters' logo, first box art issue kit WITHOUT the Parents' Magazine Logo and a 69 cent price extension. This is the first time I have seen a non-79 cent version of this kit. Just when you think you have Aurora figured out, another variation comes along! That would make this the true third issue of this kit - only three issues have the 69 cent extension and are from 1956 and 1957. This kit has not been factory overstamped to 79 and still shows 69 on both sides The kit is molded in gloss dark green and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The decals are 'excellent' and the instructions are near mint. Please NOTE that the box only grades 'good.' The box has good color, is very solid (including all four corners) and has no fading but there is the obvious short litho tear under the logo on the box top. Additionally, there is general wear as shown and a short piece of masking tape on each of the two long sides.

Features extensive decals with all side stripes, fin flash, name boards and more, fine raised and many recessed panel lines, detailed landing gear that can be built retracted or extended, detail main gear bay, good engine inlet and exhaust detail and a large display stand.

This is Lindberg's R/C issue and it includes two electric motors, all necessary hardware, R/C and motor mounting plates...just about everything except batteries and a 2 Channel Radio. There is plenty of room in the vast hull for lighting, noise/speaker and any equipment or larger batteries you may wish to add. Molded in white, silver and clear with many brilliantly chromed parts. The molds were reportedly damaged in this run, which if true would prohibit a reissue. Never started. Almost all parts are still in the factory sealed bags. Strombecker Cessna T-37A Tweet - USAF Jet Primary Trainer, 1/48, D33-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$125

From the mid 1950s. Strombecker was very well known for producing the finest pre-carved hardwood aircraft and missile kits, but they had a very short journey into the plastic model field. They made a total of 5 molds for plastic injected aircraft kits, the 1956 Sea Dart being the first. All were discontinued in the mid 1960s. One kit was this T-37A, which after Strombecker's demise, was issued as an Aurora kit. This is a very nice kit for that time with operating landing gear, dive brakes and canopy, as well as 'good' cockpit detail and instruction and student pilot figures. Includes very colorful and extensive decals in 'excellent' condition and full instructions with two photos of the completed model and one photo of the real aircraft, exploded parts diagram and very nicely illustrated building steps. Molded in silver and clear. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one part, the hinge frame for the canopy. Can be built without this part (Aurora eliminated it in their issues). Otherwise includes all other parts, decals and instructions.

Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Guillows Jetfire Glider - Bagged

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$36

Still factory sealed. 15 Cent issue from the late 1960s or early 1970s. The famous and popular Jetfire features a real plastic canopy with pilot outline, completely diecut parts with colorful red printing, assembled in less than a minute and was ready to fly! Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2014.
