Megow Great Republic Clipper Ship

Rare kit from 1936. Megow carried an extensive line of unique and historical ships. The most expensive kits (like this one) were large and featured pre-carved hulls. This model measures 20 inches long and 15 inches high when built. This is a very well produced deluxe kit for it's time, including highly detailed full size plane, instructions, excellent printwood, mast and spar stock, three paint colors still in the original Megow glass bottles, colored flags, a packed of metal fittings (still factory sealed) and a ready-carved hull. The kit has never been started and is complete with all parts, flags and plans in excellent condition - even the original tissue is present. The Great Republic was the largest clipper ship to be built. She was designed by builder Donald McKay and launched on October 4, 1853 with much fanfare. She was 400 feet long and said for 19 years as a merchantman. She proved very fast, out sailing steam ships in the Med and at times averages 17kts over 24 hours.

Still factory sealed. 1969 issue. The Yorktown was one of three prewar sister carriers along with Enterprise (CV-6) and Hornet (CV-8). The Yorktown saw extensive action in the Coral Sea, the first sea battle in which opposing forces did not sight each other from warships. At Midway she fought alongside Enterprise and Hornet to help sink 4 Japanese carriers, but was lost after the battle after an epic struggle to save the ship. Very nicely molded model. Features internal hangar deck that is visible through side hangar doors after assembly, 20 Douglas SBD Dauntless airwing with decals (well molded with raised panel lines and propellers), 20" long full hull, movable cranes, separately molded AA guns and catwalks and optional position elevators. The box art shows the prewar high-vis finish, and decals are included for prewar markings for the ship and aircraft.

Fantastic kit with 134 parts and a Combat Crew of 5. Kit has almost all the moving features of the real weapon. The Skysweeper was a 45 round-per-minute that was teamed with the Nike Ajax in the late 1950s/early 1960s to defend America against Soviet Attack. The gun system was radar controlled and fully mobile. It could be set up on any terrain and ready to fire in 2 minutes. The unit was considered very advanced and complex at the time; it took army maintenance crews 37 weeks each to train on the system at Aberdeen. Never started.
