Guillows Hellcat F6F Carrier Fighter - 16.5 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model Airplane, 503

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

1976 stick and tissue flying model which features die cut balsa parts, vacuform nose/spinner, wheels, plastic propeller, hardware, vacuform canopy, colored tissue, insignia and full size plans with detailed building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions/plans present. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Ragwings Fokker D.VI (D-VI), 1/72, 009

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Very limited production kit - one of only 94 ever made. Very high quality resin castings with metal details and full decals for two aircraft. I have received the following information from Jeff Stockham on this rare kit: 'Regarding the Ragwings Fokker D.VI you have for sale, I can provide some additional background info on this kit. The company was formed and owned by Marty Snow (dba MGS Enterprises) of Rochester, NY; Marty did the masters for the Pfalz E-1 and Bristol Scout D; I did the master for the Fokker D.VI (modifying some parts from Revell's Dr.I and D.VII and scratchbuilding some) and I did the artwork for all the backing cards, decals and instructions, as well as the small print ads that appeared in FineScale Modeler and other magazines. I was halfway though the master for a really accurate Albatros D.V/D.VA when other events interfered, other makers came out with the same items, momentum slowed, and Marty eventually closed up the business. The actual production of both the resin and metal copies was subcontracted to Ted Paris of Commanders Series Inc, Rochester NY; I think that Decal Master printed the decals. In all the years since, I have never seen one of these for sale. I know Marty marketed them directly to retail buyers via mail order ads in FSM; I don't know how many he actually sold, but it wasn't enough to make it worth the effort. These have to be among of the rarest short-run resin kits ever. I never did build one of these D.VI's up, but I do remember that it got a very positive review in one of the British modeling magazines (I think it was Windsock.)' The kit has never been started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Megow Great Republic Clipper Ship

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

Sold

Rare kit from 1936. Megow carried an extensive line of unique and historical ships. The most expensive kits (like this one) were large and featured pre-carved hulls. This model measures 20 inches long and 15 inches high when built. This is a very well produced deluxe kit for it's time, including highly detailed full size plane, instructions, excellent printwood, mast and spar stock, three paint colors still in the original Megow glass bottles, colored flags, a packed of metal fittings (still factory sealed) and a ready-carved hull. The kit has never been started and is complete with all parts, flags and plans in excellent condition - even the original tissue is present. The Great Republic was the largest clipper ship to be built. She was designed by builder Donald McKay and launched on October 4, 1853 with much fanfare. She was 400 feet long and said for 19 years as a merchantman. She proved very fast, out sailing steam ships in the Med and at times averages 17kts over 24 hours.
