The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. NOTE: decals are intact but have staining.. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Joe Ott Joe Ott Bild-A-Set 30 inch wingspan Douglas SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber - Balsa Wood Flying Model Airplane Kit, 502

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare 30 inch wingspan kit dated 1944. The Joe Ott designed 'Bilt-A-Set' series was the height of the classic stick and tissue flying model kits- not just for the box art, but also for the contents. The large wingspan kits were the top of the Joe Ott line and had a price tag to match. They were out of reach of most children in the 1940s. Fewer were produced, which makes them harder to find today. In a time when most kits came only with white tissue, printed wood and plans, the Bilt-A-Set line box came chock full of parts and features like Assembly Line jigs for straight fuselage and nacelles, Speedlok Clamps, Die cut plywood or balsa parts sheet, die cut cardstock sheets, colored tissue, color printed national markings, clear window material, fully illustrated instructions and more. This kit has not been started. No parts have been removed from the sheets and it is 100% complete.

The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Sterling Nieuport 17 Launches Rockets in Flight - 24 Inch Wingspan For Free Flight / Control Line / R/C, A5-298

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This large scale kit is from the 1970s and includes innovative system for automatically firing wing rockets in flight. The Sterling Fokker D-7 has the same system; other models such as the Stuka and P-6E drop bombs in flight; another actually drops leaflets while another crop dusts. This model is designed to fly one of three ways; free flight (rubber or gas, control line or R/C. If you are experienced, you can even make it electric powered R/C. Features precision, die-cut balsa wood parts, lightweight and detailed plastic cowl with engine front, machine gun & pilot bust, fully formed wheels with rubber tires, complete rocket firing system with fully finished rockets, launching tubes and hardware, plastic propeller, fully formed wire landing gear struts, rubber motor, covering tissue, a large and beautiful decal sheet and superb Sterling full size plans with instructions. Never started and the small parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags; the larger parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete. Includes decals and instructions. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits due to their many additional features.
