Cleveland Boeing P-26A Peashooter Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, SF-60

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Aurora SE-5 British Scout Screwdriver Kit, 1/19, 399-350

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Rare. 1967 issue hardbox with colorful John Steel artwork. Very large 1/19 scale kit. Aurora originally designed these molds for gas-powered U-Control aircraft. Market experience, however, showed Aurora that liability was higher with gas powered aircraft and customer returns were common. Aurora quickly came up with an idea to recoup the tooling costs - sell the kits as giant scale screw-together static model aircraft. Luckily the kits sold very well for Aurora, and modelers ended with some of the largest scale injection molded kits ever produced. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Aurora Fokker D-7 (D-VII DVII) Giant Screwdriver Kit, 1/19, 398-400

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1973 'Block Letters' logo issue. The D-VII and several other aircraft were originally designed for a gas motor U-Control, but Aurora decided to discontinue gas powered models after a short release time. The reason for this is unknown, but it may have been related to liability or return volume. In order to further utilize the expensive molds, Aurora released the entire line as static 'Giant Size Models' with screwdriver assembly - known today as 'Aurora Screwdriver Kits'. This is the static version. Very large kit molded in bright gloss red, black and with many metal parts. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still sealed in the factory bag and all other parts have been inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions in excellent condition.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

1967 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of their kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box. This car is an exact reproduction of the car owned by Ralph T. Buckley, owner of the Antique Auto Shop of New Jersey. This shop specialized in rebuilding Mercer automobiles to factory new condition. The car was part of the Gene Zimmerman display of over 150 such cars in Holiday West PA. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood or 'bonnet.' Molded in deep red, brass plating, clear and with rubber tires. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.
