The aircraft was very popular with crews, so it continued in use for many years after it left squadron service. While flying as a 'hack' aircraft, they acquired wheel pants and Townend cowl ring - these parts are also included in the kit. Esoteric was known for production perhaps the finest vacuform kits. The mold quality is higher than most injection molded kits. Every part needed to complete the kit is included - down to the interior. Very well molded and highly detailed with metal parts - decals - shaped struts and full instructions. Never started and 100% complete.

Dyna-Products Republic P-47D Thunderbolt Wood and Metal Model Airplane

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type kits with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardboard display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage and all other parts are rough cut or die cut. Includes a vacuform canopy, color decals, full size and well-detailed plans and the crowning jewel, a box of 39 finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Carl Goldberg Models Hi Thrust Viking - 48 inch Wingspan .049-.051 Gas Free Flight Airplane, G10

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM-

Sold

Large parasol design for sport or competition free flight. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. Needless to say, Goldberg's kits are of the highest quality. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Midwest Fortastrop - 36 inch Wingspan Free Flight Airplane for Sport or Competition, FG-6

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

From the 1940s. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft designed by FS Garcher. Quality kit includes printwood, strip wood, wheels, tissue and beautiful full size plans. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.
