Molded in bright glossy gray and clear. The first issue is identical inside but has two airborne aircraft on the box artwork. First issue hardbox from 1969. In the late 1960s Aurora went to great lengths in improve new kit quality. This is one of those kits; as a result, it is well detailed and to scale. Kit features retracting forward and aft hydrofoils, detailed dual .50 caliber machine guns, 40mm gun and gunner and 81mm Mortar, interior cabin details and clear windows, 4 other crew members (one missing - see below) and a display stand. 1959 first and only issue of this classic and rare kit. 102 parts. Contains models of all 18 aircraft all to a constant 1/240 scale. All aircraft have an in-flight configuration that is accurate down to the wing angle on the B-52. The display is made complete with all aircraft riding on 'Flight Wires' from the special blue stand. Features large full decal sheet. The box appears much better than the 'Good++' rating in the photos. The reason for the low rating is that one long side and one short side have several inches of bug damage. Never started. Complete with all parts, decals, stand, flight wires, instructions and 24 page Air Power booklet. NOTE: part #2, the F-86 vertical stabilizer, has the very small front tip broken off. The tip is missing. The decals have a factory flaw in that two of the 'USAF' markings have a printing smear.

The kit itself is large scale and well detailed. Builds Battle of Britain version or tropical PR Mk 1 version. Box aircraft is that of squadron leader RR Stanford-Tuck whose markings are included. Features detailed Rolls Royce Merlin engine, removable cowling, completely detailed cockpit, sliding canopy, pilot figure, rotating wheels and propeller, detailed gear wells and more. Still factory sealed. Very highly detailed kit. From original Taimei molds. Taimei was the first to use the Aeroskin type process that was widely used by Renwal. Actually, the Renwal molds for the Voisin, Bleriot XI and Antoinette came from Taimei. The original internal frame structure and details of the aircraft is built from injection molded plastic. When complete, it is covered with a very strong fabric which is included. The result is a very realistic aircraft.

Small scale kit from Berlin, Germany. I am unable to find a date, but the kit certainly seems old. Includes a 1/200 S-51 molded in silver and clear blue-tinted plastic, an instruction sheet with markings guide, and decals for one of two air forces. The helicopter is very nicely molded (not like a toy) and has raised panel lines; the canopy has raised frame lines. Please note that two of three tail rotor and one main rotor blades have broken off but are present.

Very rare. In the 1950s, the US Navy began a program called the "Fleet Ballistic Missile". Since missiles of the day had short range, it made sense to sail Navy ship within range and fire missiles from then. Nothing had ever been done like this before, so a special research ship was converted from a "Mariner" class cargo vessel. The USS Compass Island was the US Navy's experimental forerunner of ballistic missile-launching vessels. She was commissioned at the New York naval Shipyard on December 3, 1956. Displacing 17,000 tons, the Compass Island was designed to assist in the development of SINS, or the Ship Inertial Navigational System. Missiles can only hit targets if they know exactly where they were launched from. This early system was a distant relative of GPS, the Global Positioning System. The ship carried the usual crew in addition to many scientists. She was equipped with Regulus I missiles for testing as well as many other instruments from research on navigation done at the Instrumentation Laboratory and MIT. The Compass Island was also equipped with the Sperry Gyroscope Company's new Gyrofin Ship Stabilizer. These are included in the model and move as the real ones did to keep the Compass Island from rolling. Each fin provided 3,000 foot-tons of lift and reduced this motion by 90%. This kit is highly detailed, very finely molded and includes the Regulus I missiles and launchers. The kit has not been started. NOTE: it is missing one small part #11, a short hull fairing. It can be made with sandpaper and stock plastic or can be made with putty. All other parts are inventoried complete with decals and instructions. NOTE: Although the kit is complete, there are two broken parts. Two prop blades are broken but are intact and included. The
