Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Over 1000 Trackers were completed for the Navy as carrier-based submarine hunters. Grumman was awarded the contract in 1950, and in 1952 the first XS2F-1 flew. The large belly radome contained the PAS-38 search radar and the ASQ-10 MAD detector was in the tail. ALD-3 ECM performed DF (direction finding) duties, and the 70 million candle power spotlight lit up targets at night. Sonobuoys were held in both engine nacelles and offensive weapons included acoustic torpedoes, depth charges, rockets and conventional bombs. Trackers saw service in several other Navies including Canada.

Molded in white, chrome and a realistic tinted clear. Model is 13 3/8 inches long when assembled.

Rare first issue hardbox dated 1957. This first issue is P20 and the second is PA20; the 'P' designation lasted less than a year. Molded in the correct, early high gloss silver plastic. Features retracting landing gear, rotating wheels/props, three man crew, optional position door and two survivors in a life raft. Never started. Inventoried with all parts, decals and instructions present. Instructions and decals are 'excellent'. NOTE: box is intact but has insect litho damage as shown and on the side panels. The Albatross was the primary sea rescue aircraft of the Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service, a branch of MAC - Military Airlift Command. Operational service began in 1947 and Hu-16s saw wartime action in Vietnam.
