Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

The early issue from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Classic motorized kit with over 100 moving parts. All internal cardboard and cello display packing is present. Includes the Renwal parts order sheet, packing inspection ticket, instructions and original V-8 booklet. When built, all major internal parts move via electric motor and spark plugs (red lights) flash in time. This kit has never been started. Inside, the kit has never been started. I did a complete inventory on all clear, red, black and metallic colored parts. Most small parts packets are still sealed, but the ones that are open have been inventoried complete. Does not include Renwal plastic cement. The box shows better than the 'Fair++' grade but it has much clear tape on it, especially the sides.

Airfix D.H. Heron II - RAF or Shell Oil, 1/72, 381

The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box has moisture damage. The decals look 'ok' but be prepared to furnish your own if you plan on building the kit. The Heron was the result of a larger and redesigned Dove and first flew in 1950. It's ability to operate from rough fields and ease of maintenance quickly make it a favorite for feeder and independent airlines in the UK and overseas. Heron IIs were also selected by the RAF for the Queens Flight, which is a statement to it's reliability and safety.

Hawk 1909 Hupmobile - Highway Classics, 1/24, 635-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare hardbox kit from 1964. Hawk did not issue many automobile kits, but when they did they chose interesting subjects. Molded in 1/24 scale in bright yellow plastic and black wheels. There has never been any assembly but NOTE there is minor and very neat painting to some small parts. The seat cushions, 'brass' parts, axles, spring, radiator, fuel tank and one wheel are painted. Quality of paint ranges from 'excellent++' to 'professional.' There is no other painting. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. The 1909 Hupmobile was among the first cars to look 'long, low and lovely' with a racy appearance. Rarely seen now, the Hupmobile was very popular in that day due to good performance, looking a bit like a Mercer or Stutz but sporting a much lower price tag. And this kit has a very interesting history also! The molds were originally cut by Kaysun in Japan @ 1954. The kits were a huge advance over the 'Highway Miniatures' and if put side to side put the Revell offerings to shame. I do not know of other kits from Kaysun beyond the two cars. Later in the 1950s Strombecker purchased these molds and issued them in very colorful boxes. However, Strombecker discontinued all plastic kit production in the late 1950s. In 1964 Hawk somehow located these molds. Always with an eye to quality, the Mates brothers knew these were perfect kits for their expanding line of models. The called the Rambler and Hupmobile 'Highway Classics' and issued them in full color boxes that sported photos of the actual built models. There were at least three issues; one at 50 cents, one at 60 cents and one with a special case. However good the kit, the subject matter simply did not catch on and eventually the kits were withdrawn from the line. Polks Hobby Modelcraft found and purchased the molds in 1982 but did not issue the kits. In 1988 Mandrill Manufacturing purchased the Strombecker molds and it is possible these two Kaysun kits is among them.

His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
