Maircraft Taylorcraft - 'Little Gems' Series Scale Solid Wooden Aircraft Kit, 1/72, G-5

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+

Sold

These kits are good candidates for the first line of 1/72 model aircraft produced in the USA. Although not as old as the Frog injection molded 1/72 scale kits, these solid wood and metal models were made in the late 1930s or 1940s to 1/6 inch scale - which is commonly known today as exactly 1/72 scale. Maircraft announced kits G-1 through G-6 with 'more to come', but it is likely that no others were produced as Maircraft was out of business by 1948. The highpoint of the Little Gems series was the plans and instructions. Wonderfully illustrated and written, they show step by step how to carve and contour the model and how to finish it. Includes excellent three view full size drawings and templates. The kit consists of balsa wood with printed outlines for all parts and a metal parts sheet with wheels and propeller. This kit has never been started and is complete with all parts and plans/instructions. Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model), and eventually even made these 1/72 scale series 'Little Gems'.

Pyro Bunker Hill Pistol, 1/1, G204-150

Mid 1960s hardbox - most likely the third issue. In addition to cars, ships, planes and figures, Pyro added an excellent line of well-known and not-so-well-known life-sized (1/1) scale pistol and rifle models to their line. In each case Pyro gained access to the actual weapon during the kit design, insuring a very accurate model. This is a full size 15 inch long copy in wood grain and metal colored plastic. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.

Modav Vosper Thornycraft K.D. Perkasa Gas Turbine Patrol Boat - 37 Inch Long Radio Controlled Boat Kit, 1/32

Rare. From the 1970s. Large 1/32 scale kit measures 37 inches long (935mm) with a beam of 9.25 inches (235mm) when assembled. Nicely detailed kit for static display or operation on water. Recommended power is .19 gas engine, but it could be easily made electric power. With the exception of a few metal and plastic parts, the kit is completely die-cut lite plywood (mainly birch) with a very fine grain. Details are balsawood and hardwood with metal stock. Paperwork includes highly illustrated instruction book with class history and step by step instructions, parts layout sheet and parts list and fold out plans. The kit has never been started. All the small sub assembles (such as the gun, cooling stacks, lockers, etc) are still sealed in the factory bags. All other parts have been inventoried complete and un-punched. Modav, or Model Avionics, made this kit and others in the early 1970s. Later they became known as Precedent. This kit seems to have been issued on the edge of the transformation as the box is Modav and the paperwork is labeled Precedent and Modav (even on the same sheets).

Pyro Bismarck Battleship - Table Top Navy, 1/1200, 380-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Small scale ship kit from the Table Top Navy series. Very nicely done kits for their time. Can be built full hull or waterline. Features propeller and shaft detail, separately molded turrets, stacks, many superstructure parts and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Many of the Pyro kits came from Eagle (then Eaglewall) molds in England. Eaglewall went out of business around 1962 and Pyro acquired at least some of the molds. Pyro reissued some of these kits in the mid 1960s with AJ Rudisill artwork. Evidently the line was successful, as Pyro then cut some of their own molds and expanded the series significantly. The earlier issues have the full color artwork and a three digit part number. Later issues have a 'B' or 'C' in front of the three digit kit number; some have simplified box art that is a modification of the original Rudisill paintings by painting out most of the background. Pyro issued these kits into the late 1960 when Life-Like took over the molds. Some were reissued by Life-Like.
