Lindberg Patrol Sea Raider (P.T. Boat /PT Boat) Cellovision Issue - Motorized, 1/60, 723M-249

Early cellovision issue from the 1950s. The Cellovision window in intact and the trading card is in excellent condition. Fantastic Ray Gaedke artwork. Very large and nicely detailed kit that is fully motorized for operation in water. This kit has never been started. NOTE: missing one part - the raised switch to turn the motor on. Easily made from stock, flat plastic. The kit has been inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions. This kit has a fascinating history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944 as a multi-media model. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull and cardstock deck but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. That made it one of the first US ship kits to have extensive injection molded parts. But the world was not ready for this type of kit and dealers were hesitant to carry it - which resulted in low sales. Gorden Varney sold the molds for this kit and his other early kits to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he went to an injection molded hull, colorful cardstock 'wood' deck and all polystyrene parts for the first issue. The second issue was all plastic with the metal stanchions and hand rails. The final version (this kit) has all injection molded parts.

Scientific Varsity - 50 inch Wingspan Gas Free Flight Model Airplane

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Rare 1930s free-flight competition model from the Scientific Company of Newark, NJ. This model came from the estate of a very active and particular early aircraft kit collector. It is like factory-new inside and has not been started. Complete with all parts, plans and decals (if originally included). Designed for 'Sniffing Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off.
