Rare waterline kit. Excellent resin moldings with cast metal details. Includes full instructions. The kit has never been started. These destroyers served early in WWII and thus had a high attrition rate; Sims was lost with the tanker Nesho in the Battle of the Coral Sea, Hammann was assisting the crippled Yorktown at Midway when I-168 torpedoed both her and Yorktown. O'Brien, Walke, Buck and Morris were casualties of war also. The rest of the class were expended in nuclear testing after the war or scrapped in 1947.

Purchased new on August 8, 1966 at Hobbyville in Cleveland, OH. Very nicely produced stick-and-tissue model that actually releases 'crop dust' in flight. Can be flown with rubber, electric or gas control line or converted to RC with modern lightweight systems. Features high quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, other wood and metal stock as required, light plastic engine, exhaust and pilot bust, clear dual die-cut windscreens (still mint not yellowed), rubber motor, plastic prop, a big set of decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started and complete. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

The box has exceptional has like-new color and gloss, four solid corners and no price tag or tape marks other than the factory tape. But I have graded it 'Very Good++' because it has a litho tear on the top long side that is .5 x 1.5 inches. Kit features detailed cockpit and two pilots, rotating main and tail rotors, detailed engine and optional position clam-shell nose doors, winch and 'downed' pilot and clear Revell 'Globe' stand. Original Revell 'S' hardbox kit from 1956. Fantastic box art. Highly detailed and well molded model. Features deck guns, all masts and booms, barges and landing craft. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes flags, decals and instructions. The USS Randall was on of 57 Haskell Class Attack Transports built for service in and immediately after WWII. The ships were designed to carry troops close to the beachheads, transfer them to landing barges (carried on board) and to supervise the landing operations. Her length was 455 feet and she could handle 1,560 troops and carry 3000 tons of equipment. Through her colorful career she earned many awards. She had to tours in the Pacific including Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After the war she took part in 'Magic Carpet'. Her Hollywood career was in the movie 'Away All Boats' in which she played the Belinda'.
