Marvel Douglas 8A-5 / A-33 Attack Bomber - Battle Planes Of America Series - Solid Wood Aircraft, 1/48

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

$39

Rare solid model from 1942. At that time, their were 'fliers' and 'solids.' 'Fliers' were notoriously off-scale and lacked detail so they would fly well. 'Solids' were true scale models that were solid wood and designed only to be scale miniatures (they did not fly). This kit has a worn box missing the end flaps, but inside it is complete with all parts and full-size plans with instructions and a description of this rare aircraft. There are three sheets of printwood and a block for the fuselage. The model has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and plans present. Please note, this is war time model so compressed fibre-board has been substituted for balsa wood. Marvel Mfg. Company was located in Seaford, Long Island, New York and had an extensive line of solid aircraft, wooden ships, army tanks and more. Just as a small example, the following are advertised on the back of this larger-scale solid kit: Grumman JRF-2, Mariner PBM-1, Bell YFM-1, P-38, P-40, Baltimore, Ryan STM-2, Curtiss AT-9, Douglas A-20A, Republic Guardsman, Grumman Skyrocket and Douglas 8A-5.

BMJR Models Miss America 1/2 - 48 Inch Wingspan, B-326

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

$76

Still factory sealed and retails new for $104. An excellent kit featuring traditional stick-and-tissue construction, laser cut wood parts, hardware, full size plans and instructions. The Miss America was originally designed by Fran Zaic in 1935 as a gas powered Free Flight model with an 84" wing span and later became a kit released by Scientific. In 1959 Joe Wagner and John Pond were discussing a new event for SAM competition: scaled down versions of 'Antique' gas models of the 1930's, to be powered with Cox .020 engines. From this, the 020 Replica event was spawned. For this event Joe designed the 1/2 size Miss America. The BMJR Miss America 1/2 has a wing loading of just over 8oz per ft. making it legal for SAM Texaco. The Miss America 1/2 may be powered with Texaco .049 or electric. With a 42 inch wingspan, she is perfect for the Texaco Speed 400 event. This design was later published in the 1961 Model Airplane News with electric power and R/C in an article by Bill Winter. The BMJR kit was developed from an original hand drawn plan from 1959 provide by Joe with permission to develop this kit. This model is true to the original with some subtle changes to the rudder, elevator, and structure for RC control and a simplified landing gear mounting. Flying weight of this model is 13.5 oz. with a 238 sq. inch wing area.

Golden Age Reproductions Peerless Models Fleet Trainer - 22 inch Wingspan for Free Flight or R/C Conversion

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$38

Reissue of the 1936 Peerless Model Airplane Company Kit. Peerless was not around for long until they were bought out by Cleveland. As a result, Peerless kits are considered rare, so this is an ideal way to obtain a 'builder' model. Golden Age is a high quality company committed to reissuing classic stick and tissue kits and plans from the Golden Age of flying models, the 1930s. Kit are of very high quality and include printwood, strip wood, nose block, plastic propeller, rubber motor, vac wheels, prop shaft, thrust button and bearings, beautiful copies of the original full size plans and covering material. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including instructions.

Sterling Curtiss P-6E Hawk - 16 inch Wingspan Flying Model Aircraft that Drops Bombs in Flight, A10

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$65

From the early to mid 1960s that is designed for rubber free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for dropping bombs in flight. Stick and tissue model featuring quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, other wood stock as required, die-cut clear windshield, vac plastic details including radiator scoop, engine cowling, pilot bust, wheels pants, exhaust ports and more, finished wire landing gear struts, finished main and tail wheels, rubber motor, plastic prop, covering tissue and a big full color decal sheet. Includes excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Please note that the box displays better than the 'very good' grade; it is rated as such because there is some bug damage on two side panels. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling's offering to be 'deluxe' compared to other manufacturers.
