First issue hardbox dated 1956 that builds to a beautiful model. Like most early Revell sailing ship models, the molds were cut by true craftsman. The kit is beautifully molded in black, white and tan and has excellent detail and mold quality. Includes pre-formed ratlines, vacuform billowing sails (in mint condition), decals, flag sheet and full or simplified rigging instructions. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The box displays well but is only rated 'good' due to two pieces of clear tape on the top and also on all four side corners.

Still factory sealed and perhaps still the best injection-molded Ark Royal kit. This full-hull model is well detailed with 171 pieces and includes aircraft. This aircraft carrier was the third vessel of the Royal Navy to be named Ark Royal - the first ship took part in the defeat of the Spanish Armada, and the second was being constructed as a tanker when the Royal Navy took it over and converted it to become the first seaplane carrier. The Ark Royal III was launched in April 13, 1937 and was very active during WWII. She was reported sunk several times by German sources. She took part in the defense of Norway. In October of that year, she and Renown went to the South Atlantic to hunt for the Graf Spee. Later her Skuas took part in a gallant but failed attack on the Scharnhorst. She then moved to Gibraltar with Force H. In May of 1941, she took part in the search for the Bismarck. Her Swordfish torpedo aircraft scored two hits, one of which jammed the rudders of the German Battleship while she was in a tight turn. This hit sealed the fate of Bismarck, and she was later sunk. If this hit would not have occurred, she would have made safe haven at Brest. In November of 1941, the Ark Royal was working the dangerous escort of Malta convoys when she was struck by a torpedo from U-81. Despite all attempts to save her, she went down. Only one sailor lost his life.

Big 1/12 scale model with a 35.25 inch wingspan. Originally designed as a gas powered model for free flight or control line, it can be converted to electric power and modern R/C (radio control). Includes all parts to build as a landplane but includes plans and instructions for seaplane and floats. Features numerous die-cut and prefabricated wooden parts, strip stock & spars as required, formed wire landing gear, completely finished wheels, die-cut clear windshield and side windows, decal sheets, covering material, full size plans and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and plans present. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

I did not see any tire burns on this model; if I missed any, they are minor and not on important parts. The decals are in amazing 'near mint' condition as are the instructions. The box is in 'excellent+' condition. it displays better but there is some light scuffing on the lower long side.

The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions but NOTE: the instructions are full size, high-quality photocopies as the original instructions are missing. Please note that Revell did not provide decals with this kit. The box has great color and gloss, four solid corners and displays well; however, flaws include litho chips on the edges and corners and moderate general wear as well as a light, difficult to see stain at the upper right corner (much easier to see on the top 1" x 1/4" of the long adjacent top side).
