ITC US Navy WWI Submarine Chaser (Sub Chaser) - ex-ITC, 1/74, C-582-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

The US Navy WWI Submarine chaser was a 110 foot wooden vessel. The ships carried a crew of 25 and were armed with a 3 lb deck gun and a 'Y' gun for discharging depth charges. The ships proved valuable in combating the German U-boats in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Some were updated and saw service in WWII. This is the large and nicely detailed ex-ITC kit from the 1960s. When ITC discontinued plastic kit production, 'Ringo' was the name give to the 'clearing house' company that cleansed the ITC warehouse of left-over stock. Ringo kits normally did not come with decals or flag sheets - this kit is no exception. The kit has not been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag. The larger parts have been inventoried complete. With instructions.

Comet Martin B-26 Marauder, 1/64, M2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG-

Sold

Rare. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type models with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers made expensive super detailed kits with metal accessories (like Dyna-Products). Comet came in the middle and struck a nice balance of detail and cost. The B-26 features a beautiful 3D cut fuselage, 2D cut wings and nacelles, 2D cut horizontal and vertical stabilizers, fully finished wheels, two sheets of quality printwood, full template sheet made of cardstock, wood stock, sandpaper, full color decals for 'Stinky' and a very large and detailed sheet of drawings including detailed and illustrated construction steps. Never started and complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached its peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
