Dyna-Products Russian Mig-15, 1/48

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type kits with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardboard display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage is beautifully finished and all other parts are rough or die cut. Includes a vacuform canopy, color decals, full size and well-detailed plans and the crowning jewel, a box of 27 finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Cleveland Playboy Junior Gas Powered Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, GP-5006

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

54 inch wingspan gasoline powered free-flight competition model. Cleveland entered the 1930s gas model market with the famous Playboy series. The design is so solid and popular that it is still a favorite at meets today (Like SAM - Society of Antique Modelers) where free-flight competition exist. Cleveland was late to introduce these kits (1939), but they wanted to ensure that the quality and performance was there. It appears that there were three aircraft in the Playboy line - the Baby, Junior and Senior. The model has not been started and is in exceptional condition. It comes from a long-time flying aircraft collection. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Revell Tally-Ho Coach - Miniature Masterpieces, 1/48, H513-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare 1955 kit. This kit features some of my favorite box artwork by Scott Eidson. Very highly detailed model includes coach, horses and figures as shown on the box art.The kit is as new inside - it has never been started and is inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and like-new building instructions. Although it is damaged, the original 'krinkle' bag is included also. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also.
