Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

The fighter was well armed and had self sealing tank, hydraulically folding wings and a bullet proof windshield. The revised version with the MK9A was a complete success, but earthquakes, bombing raids and a prototype crash delayed the project till the end of the war. With many brass photoetched details.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Dated 1976. This is the 2nd and final issue of the original 1961 kit. It shows up less than the original issue because Aurora went out of business shortly after this issue. This kit can easily be converted for water operation but those parts are not included in this issue. Features a large, color decal sheet with flight deck markings, moving elevators, twin Sea Sparrow launchers, deck tugs, display stand, detailed island structure with clear windows, large airwing with 40 aircraft including F-4 Phantom, F-8 Crusader, A-4 Skyhawk and two Hup Helicopters and more. The aircraft are nicely molded with recessed panel lines. All the ship parts are still sealed in the factory bags. The aircraft bag has been opened but it complete with all parts. NOTE: one A-4 Skyhawk has been built. Quality of assembly is 'professional' and there is no other assembly and zero painting. Decals are 'very good++' with bug damage to the backing paper only; the actual transfers are clean. The instructions have minor bug damage to the lower edge.
