His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

United Scale Models Brass Sante Fe AT&SF Hudson 4-6-4 Locomotive and Tender - HO Scale, HO

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Beautiful United Scale Models of Japan all-brass locomotive and tender in exceptional 'near mint', factory fresh condition. Please note that it is in the wrong box; the train is a Hudson but the box says Berkshire. The factory paint and lettering on the locomotive is in mint condition. There are no missing or loose parts and no visible wear on the upper side. The underside is as clean as the top. It looks as if the engine was never run or only run for testing. The lettering on the tender is mint and the paint is 'near mint+++'. The only flaws are two very tiny paint chips on the aft hand rail. They could easily be touched up by hand. Both models are not even dusty because they were always stored in the plastic bags, then wrapped and placed inside the original boxes. This model must be shipped insured. Please note that 3463 still survives to this day and is one of two remaining AT&SF 4-6-4 Hudsons.

Ace Whitman USS Seadragon SS194 Submarine (Sargo Class) - Balsa Ship Model Kit, 1/169, 2994

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Rare, large scale 22 inch long hollow display model likely from the 1940s. It builds up with hull bulkheads and stringers and is intended to be tissue or silk covered, although it would be much wiser to either cover it with thin balsa or plank it like a plank-on-frame ship model. The photos (on the back of the box and on the plans) of the built model are impressive and realistic; no doubt, you can make an incredible, almost one-of-kind kit from it. However, there is a great deal of scratch building expected, which is typical of kits from that time. It is certainly not recommended for beginners. The builder should be highly experienced with stick and tissue methods and scratchbuilding fittings and more.
