Monogram Speedee-Bilt P-47 Thunderbolt, G17-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Rare kit dated 1957. The box top and tray are in excellent condition. Features beautiful Monofoil fully-shaped wing, other fully shaped balsa parts, finished wheels, factory-painted die-cut parts (still unpunched), a large number of plastic details, clear vacuform canopy, sandpaper, rubber motor, covering tissue (factory folded into the plans), detailed instructions and like-new decals. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Scale flying wooden rubber powered model from the early 1950s. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa, maybe a detail part or two and simple plans. These "Make Wood Look Like Plane" models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually RC). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufacturers sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This raised prices, naturally. Many manufacturers launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original 'Speedee-Bilt' kits were in one-piece two-color boxes. In the early 1950s, shortly before plastic kits were available, Monogram changed to the 'hardbox' with a lithographic slick glued to the top as this kit. Speedee-Bilt kits contained die cut and pre painted wooden parts, completely formed airfoil wings, carved wheels and numerous plastic details like cowlings, pilot, missiles, prop and more (depending on the actual kit). Assembly was by detailed full size plans.

Revell Cutty Sark Clipper Ship - 3 Feet Long, 1/96, H364-995

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Rare first issue of this kit dated 1960. Large and highly detailed, measuring 36 inches long when built. This is the finest example of this kit, inside or out, that I have seen. The box is not perfect but is the best I have ever seen. It has like-new color and gloss, four solid corners with no repairs and zero price tags, fading or stains. There are marks from the factory tape (but no tears) and light edge wear and very light general wear. Although older, this kit is often still the 'standard' that other large-scale plastic sailing ships models are measured by. Since this is the first issue, the model has the factory painted copper hull below the waterline. The factory paint is in amazing 'near mint' condition. Since this is a first edition it also contains the booklet about the Cutty Sark. Features highly detailed deck, deck houses, cargo holds and removable covers, masts, yards and booms, bilge pump, windlass, 20 crew figure, lifeboats with oars, life preservers, anchors and anchor chains. With draftline and transom decals, figurehead, finely detailed hull, preformed ratlines and molded deadeyes, pin rails and blocks, full standing rigging instructions and diagrams and thread & chain for rigging. Molded in three colors - black, ivory/white and dark swirl wood tan. The kit has never been started. Beside the hull, all parts are in the rare factory internal box which is almost never present. Even the original factory packing tissue is present along with an unopened tube of Revell "S" Glue. Inventoried with all parts, 'excellent+' condition decals and 'near mint' instructions and plans present.
