Rare kit, probably from the late 1940s but the actual date is not known. Large scale model that is solid wood. Features 'Ray-Ring' fuselage, a novel and useful feature to make fuselage finishing easier. Instead of using template to shape the fuselage, the templates have already been used and at those locations the fuselage is already carved to final shape! You simply carve in between the pre-carved section until they match - a very nice idea. Also includes 2D cut wings, fully finished wheels, clear vacuform canopy in excellent condition (known as the 'Ray-Closure'), very high quality printwood, full color decals, very nice full size plans including building instructions and even a never-used (but dry) tube of very early Testor's wood glue. The kit has never been started and is complete. Ray Aircraft Products Co. was located in West Chester Pennsylvania. They mention this is the '2nd of the RAY SOLID MODELS' so clearly there is at least one more. Little else is known.

1950s issue flying model with the box art showing a Coke next to the young builders snack plate and finished product. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with high quality printwood, stripwood, wooden stock as required, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, prop and detailed full size plans/building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Includes anemometer with wind vane and gust indicator, sling psychrometer with two five inch thermometers, compass rose and compass, temperature humidity index and relative humidity calculator, weather recording forms, educational booklet and full instructions. NOTE: missing rain gauge; can be easily replace if you wish to use this. All other instruments are included. NOTE: One sticker was applied but the factory glue dried up and came off. It is included and in excellent condition. Two parts were glued with professional quality, but the glue dried and they fell off. Otherwise never assembled.
