Guillows Vought Corsair F4U - Flying Aircraft Model, 50-11

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Rare stick-and-tissue model dated 1954. This was part of Guillow's extensive '50' line of models with wingspans between 16 and 24 inches. These were very advanced kit for their day, featuring all die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, plastic cowl and wheels, , completely finished wheels and thrust button, plastic prop, metal prop shaft, covering tissue and superb plans with numerous construction details. Never started. NOTE: missing canopy. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts and plans. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Toms Modelworks Baloa (Bowfin / Pompanito) and Gato (Wahoo 1942 or Bluefish 1942) Submarines, 1/350

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Includes both kits. The Baloa class model allows the builder to create several different subs within the class; the reference used was the Bowfin SS287 and Pompanito SS383 which are both museum ships. There is a personal letter typed and signed by Tom that explains that these kits were to be sold at the museum gift shops. The kit is full hull cast in resin. It is very highly detailed down to the drain holes and very fine decking. It includes resin detail parts and an extensive PE fret as well as full instructions. There are two hulls present for the Baloa, but one only set of resin and PE. The Gato kit can make one of two versions, the 1942 Wahoo or early cut down sail Bluefish 1942. It is also a full cast resin hull that is beautifully done. There are resin parts to 'make a generic Gato' also and extensive PE details with full instructions. The kits have never been started and are complete.

Features one-piece full hull with fine recessed panel lines, raised details were appropriate, cast resin sail with diving planes, rear rudders and elevators and a cast metal 7 blade prop.
