From about 1941/42 and rare in this condition. This model is 'Identical to the one used in the Model Building Program of the US Office of Education sponsored by the US Navy, Bureau of Aeronautics' which was a program launched in 1941. During WWII the higher speed of aircraft made the traditional WW1 'recognition cards' nearly useless and 3D models were needed. The US Armed Forces looked to the general population to produce recognition models. While not fully successful due to irregular quality and supply, it quickly paved the way for injection molded recognition models. This kit features wood block and sheets, CASCO cement paper envelope, two sheets of sandpaper, an excellent very thick paper template, outline and gauge sheet as well as fold-out full size plans with aircraft history and detailed carving and building instructions. Never started and complete.

Wartime solid wood display (non-flying) model from about 1943/1944. Features balsa fuselage block, printed balsa wood wing sheet, printed wood sheet for stabilizers, prop blades, tail wheel and gear doors, fully formed wooden wheels, sandpaper and excellent instructions featuring templates, multiple views and drawings, detailed carving instructions for the fuselage (a welcome addition!) and assembly instructions. The templates are also duplicated on the heavier cardboard box as they are more useful that way. Such quality plans and full carving instructions and such are rare with these kits, which makes this one above average. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Hobby Model was located in New York, NY and at least produced the "T" series of kits if not others. The "T" series was T-32 SBD Dauntless, T-33 Curtis P-40 Warhawk, T-34 Supermarine Mk IX Spitfire, T-35 F4U-3 Corsair, T-35 Grumman F6F Hellcat and T-37 P-51C Mustang.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are quality hardwood (not balsa) and are smooth precarved to final shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. When complete it makes an impressive desk top display. Features original glue and sandpaper, clear plastic canopy, special Strombecker 'teardrop' display stand and extensive full color decals. 1976 issue. This kit is important because Revell was thoughtful enough to alter the venerable PT-17 molds to make a real Super Stearman. Includes new cowling/engine, scoops as required and more. This may be the only issue of the Super Stearman in this scale. Revell issued three of these 'Airshow' style kits in this year H664, H665 and H666. Each contained two aircraft and a color diorama base, backdrop and special stand. If you have all three kits, the three bases fit together to make a large Air Show diorama with all six aircraft. Very highly detailed kit featuring over 125 parts, six different opening loading doors (rear, curbside and roadside), dual spoke wheels, tandem axle suspension, two position front supports, red and amber tinted clear lights and reflectors and can be hooked to any AMT truck fifth wheel. The very large Allied decal sheet is in 'excellent' condition with only minor wear to two small locations. Molded in the correct bright white, chrome, amber and red tinted clear and with hollow rubber tires. I do not see any tire burn marks, which is rare. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions.
