US Borax Borax Twenty Mule Team and Wagon, 1/48

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

The Borax company commissioned this kit as a tie-in to the TV series 'Death Valley Days'. Originally a radio program, 'Death Valley Days' had a long run on television and ended as one of the longest running westerns in entertainment history. Very nice kit of the famous borax wagons that would cross 162 miles of Death Valley with 20 mules in the days before the railroad. There was not a single house or other sign of habitation along the route. One leg was 60 miles with no water. The two wagons carried 25 tons of Borax and the mules covered 16 to 18 miles a day with a two man crew. The sturdy wagons were purpose built for the trip. Although they carried huge loads, there is no record of one every being stranded. Never started. Still in the factory sealed bag with instructions.

Allyn Boeing Stratofreighter (Model 367 / C-97A) USAF, 1/144

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

Sold

Rare, complete kit. Allyn produced 'Factory Display' models and also released some of them to the public as standard, unassembled model kits. The Allyn kits were produced from the early 1950s and by the late 1950s production had been discontinued. Today they are all highly prized collectors items. The Boeing Stratofreighter is molded in glossy light gray, clear and black and includes factory painted yellow propeller tips as well as four metal washers as prop retainers. The model is in the 'in-flight' configuration of most factory models. Includes a very large clear two piece display stand. The base of the stand says 'C-97A - Stratofreighter - Boeing Airplane Co.' Full USAF decals are included. This kit has never been started. The kit has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. On the back of the instructions are photos of other Allyn display models that were for sale at the time.

Cleveland Mile Fliers Polish Valor Gas Type Fuselage Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, C-4

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Early World War II kit. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Aurora Russian Mig-19, 1/48, 66-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. Box is dated 1958, but the logo says this is a very early 1960s issue. The inside of the seal has some browning in spots. The browning is not on the box top but on the seal only. If you simply decided to remove the seal, you would have a absolutely mint kit. I have priced the kit as a mint kit and not as a sealed kit for this reason.

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG-

Large, 1/48 scale kit of the prototype Navy Fighter with variable geometry wings. The development of the steam catapult made the F10F unnecessary, but Grumman used the data from it to help the F-14 Tomcat program. Nicely molded with all recessed panel lines. Includes clear canopy, metal detail parts, detailed plans and instructions and many photos of the actual aircraft for detailing. Never started and complete. A certain degree of modeling skill is required to build vacuform kits. They are not recommended for beginners.
