Rogers Motor Company Studebaker M-29 C Weasel - Army Personnel and Cargo Carrier, 1/12, 29C

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Rare, large 1/12 scale highly pre-fabricated kit from 1945. Very high quality wood and metal scale Weasel measuring 10.5 inches long when assembled. Features pre-cut and precarved hardwood parts for the main body and deck fittings, completely formed bogie wheels, die-cut fibre bogie chassis, numerous other very thick fibre parts, metal screen and metal stock as needed, complete interior, numerous other die cut parts, completely formed tread links, clear windshield, full decals and much more. Rogers spent a significant amount of time on the 'Photo-Plan' instructions, providing photos for each step and detailed text, full size plans and parts list. The kit has never been started. Inventoried as good as possible and appears complete with all parts, decals and full instructions with plans. There are no part numbers and assembly is by the plans; so inventory is very difficult at best. All the major parts are there but a small (easily made) wood part or two may have been overlooked. Please NOTE: the plans/instructions and professional photocopies on one big sheet of paper like the original. The original plans are missing. Rogers was an early producer of miniature gas engines for free-flight and early radio control model kits and often had large adds for these engines in hobby magazines. The full company name on the box is listed as 'Rogers Motor Company Detroit Michigan' and the 'Scale Model Division' is listed as Tawas City, Michigan. Right at the end of WWII, Rogers made a very short journey into kit manufacturing. As you would expect from an engine manufacturer, the kits were all true scale, highly prefabricated, had excellent detail and were fairly complicated. Rogers produced at least four kits - the 40MM AA Gun and Carriage (1/16 scale), Army Weasel, LST and an amazing, huge scale Sherman M4 tank with over 780 parts. These kits were likely produced in that order, with the LST being released around late 1945/early 1946. I have seen several of these kits built and they make excellent displays. And thanks to kit builder and collector Fran Fierko for some new and important kit history! Fran was able to track down the son of the designer of the five Rogers kits. Mr. John Hoenle Jr. was a master model builder who received a deferment from the draft in WWI to build recognition models for the military- some of which may still be on display at Wright-patterson AFB in Ohio. Mr. Hoenle is believed to have designed one other early kit, a civilian Chris Craft cabin cruiser. It is unknown if this kit was issued or not. Mr. Hoenle left Rogers to design promo models for Jo-Han, which is famous for their 1950s line of car kits.

Marlin Hose Reel American Firefighters, 1/48, 102 FH

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Very rare. In 1952 Marlin Toy Company of New York City, New York entered the plastic model business. The Revell 'Highway Pioneers' were making a huge impact on the hobby industry and the timing seemed perfect. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters -Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After a run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This is an original Marlin kit in very good condition. The box has fine color. General wear and one closed split corner are the only flaws. Inside, the kit is like new. Molded in dark red and yellow. Complete with all parts, flexible hose, wire handles and instructions.
