After WWII, they carried demobilized soldiers home, and up to 1951 made dozens of trips to Asia and the Pacific. In 1952, they worked to collect the remains of Japanese war dead from the South Pacific. The ships were replaced in 1989. Very nicely detailed kit in large 1/200 scale. The assembled kit measures about 19 inches long when built. Molded in white, yellow and brown and includes extensive vacuform sails. The model has not been started. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Best 1935 Gilmore Special Indianapolis 500 Winner, 1/30, 535-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$145

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. In the early 1950s Best Hobby Kits (Best Plastic Corporation of Brooklyn, NY) entered the infant USA plastic model kit market with a series of Indianapolis 500 winners. Six kits were issued - the 1920 Monroe Special, 1922 Murphy Special, 1931 Miller Special, 1935 Gilmore Special, 1940 Maserati Racer and 1953 Fuel Injection Special. The kits were priced correctly and featured 'Super Detailed' parts (for the time). It is unknown why the line failed to sell - it may have been distribution. Best was certainly not a large player in the business. The kit features real rubber Firestone racing tires, decals and some interior detail. The kit has not been started. All parts are still in the original 'krinkle' bag. Complete with decals and instructions.

Charmore Mig-15 - Trail Blazers of Transportation, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$60

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. Charmore was located at 126 Market Street in Paterson, New Jersey. They issued a small line of kits in the early 1950s, at the dawn of US plastic kit production. All boxes have the same art - the name of the kit stamped on a side white panel. Inside, the kit has never been started. The contents are mint and complete in the original Charmore paper sacks. The main parts are the correct gloss silver (just one of the several colors that Charmore used), while the canopy, stand and stand arm are clear. Includes decals and instructions. From toy historians, we know that Charmore was created by the toy giant Louis Marx Company after 1945. Evidently Marx hope to obtain retail buyer-level advantages and tax breaks from the arrangement. The company was named for Louis' brother's (David) wife, Charlene. It has been shown that Charmore and Marx mixed molds and products when it came to toys; however, it seems that the model lines were separate. Please email me if you have more details.
