UPC M-4 Sherman Tank - (ex Hasegawa / Otaki), 1/40, 2160-250

Vaccuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

This kit is from the 1960s and is very well molded and detailed for that time. Inventoried and NOTE: missing (1) of (4) #21 very small "U" shaped tow or lift part. Includes decals and instructions. Please note that #23 is not present either but it is not used in this version. The mold origins of this kit are unknown but please note the popular 1/40 scale. Adams kits were 1/40 scale and widely exported, especially through Military Base stores after WWII; it is easy to imagine that this odd scale may have came about that way in Japan, which is where these molds came from. Two possibilities are the 1960s Otaki or Hasegawa Sherman as each company had their own in 1/40 scale. The Otaki and Hasegawa Shermans are both confirmed to have been motorized. It is possible that Otaki ended up with the Hasegawa molds as even the box art has some unique similarities. From the moldings you can tell that an earlier (non-UPC) version of this model was originally motorized. The battery holders and contact mounts are still in the lower hull; #23 was probably the motor mount and the kit still uses bronze axles. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the late 1960s.
