At one point, Monogram leased or sold a set of Corsair molds (from the original 4 Star action kit) to Idea in Korea. Idea either made a copy of the molds or modified the molds to fit a tab on each tree with the Idea name. Hobby Craft's kit is the Monogram F-82 with the Idea runner tab; so Idea either copied the molds or modified them. On the outside of many Hobby Craft boxes it says 'Made in South Korea' - obviously Idea is one of the agents who molded kits for HC.

1976 'Skyking' box issue. Very nicely molded and detailed kit that builds into a beautiful model. Includes decals for both aircraft. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats.

The box is intact with all flaps and no repairs, but has the typical 'flattened' damage as shown. Sanwa was one of Japan's earliest post-WWII kit producers, making model kits in the 1950s; some sources say 1955. Kits were marketed under Sanwa and Tokyo Plamo, with the general consensus being the the later logo came out around 1960 or later. Production ended in 1964, making all Sanwa kits rare and collectible. The entire line was extensive. It included very small scale tanks (some that were motorized), battleships in three scales with the larger ones motorized with dual prop drive, slot cars, civil sport boats and an electric outboard, a full line of hand gun models that actually shot plastic bullets, two fighter groups and bomber groups (probably Monogram), several different lines of scale aircraft, missile kits, scale (static) car models of early Japanese automobiles, at least 7 flying model aircraft that had electric and rubber motors, a 'Super Control Stand' P-51 that moved with a joystick and had an electric propeller and sound unit, two different lighthouses and a windmill, an air cushion boat, motor cycles, a diving submarine (electric) and a working (rubber band) George Washington Class SSBN and even a garden tractor with an electric motor. Just before going out of business, Sanwa issued some kits in conjunction with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games - these kits even included a copy of an Olympic medal.

Mach 2 Blohm und Voss Bv-142 - Luftwaffe Patrol and Special Transport Aircraft, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

The Bv-141 was the land-based version of the Ha-139. It was an attractive, all metal inverted gull wing aircraft. Initially, this was a civil floatplane and between 1937 and 1939, Deutsche Luft Hansa flew them on trans-Atlantic routes, mainly between Bathurst, Gambia and Natal, Brazil. They were catapult-launched from a tender ship (such as the Friesenland) and were able to transport 500kg of mail up to 5,000 km. Four land-based prototypes were built by Blohm & Voss. All had fully retractable main and tail wheel landing gear, defensive armament and other military necessities. V-1 and V-2 saw action from the late 1940s forward as part of the Luftwaffe's second surveillance Group. This unit was assigned to the operations staff of Luftflotte III in France. The served until 1942. Future plans were to equip V1 and V2 with the Henschel GT 1200C guided torpedo, but this was canceled. V3 and V4 had a more interesting history, being used as transport aircraft for the occupation of Denmark and in the Norway campaign with the KGr.z.b.V. 105 (Special combat team). Both aircraft could transport 30 fully equipped soldiers over 2,490 miles. The ultimate fate of V3 and V4 is unknown. The model kit features recessed panel lines, complete landing gear and is molded in light green and clear. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.
