Aurora Cessna 310, 1/62, 283-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

NOTE: builder only, please read carefully. 1963 issue from ex-Comet molds. Neatly molded with all recessed panel lines, rotating propellers, display stand and full pinstripe decals. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing one tip tank half. The other three are present; you can use one as a master and cast one in resin (if you are good at that), or the kit can be built without the tip tanks, and 310s do exist without them (although it is unusual). Also missing one side clear window, which can be replaced with clear plastic stock as it is almost flat. Inventoried with all other parts present including decals and instructions. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, as most of Comet's line was very small scale kits, many of them civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line with it's own molds in the early 1960s.

Revell Avro Dam Buster Lancaster, 1/72, H202

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Revell of Germany issue with full English and German instruction sheets. This kit was sold new at the RAF Museum Hendon and still retains the price tag from there. With 'Secret Bomb.'. 1960s issue. Features specially modified Lancaster fuselage with Dam Buster bomb and release mechanism. Landing gear retracts, props and wheels turns and control surfaces move. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Dam Busters squadron was famous for its daring raids on three German dams on May 16, 1943. Carrying the special Barnes Wallis-designed bombs, the Lancasters flew very low over the water in the face of heavy flak to drop the rotating bombs perfectly. Many did not return. The bombs did perform as promised, first skipping over the water, hitting the dam, then rolling down 30 feet before exploding with tremendous force. In an airburst, these bombs would not have damaged the dams, but since water is incompressible, the dams were breached.

Guillows Rumpler C5 - 24 inch Wingspan RC/Gas/Rubber Kit, 206

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Large-scale, well detailed kit and one of the harder Guillow's kits to find. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern small, light servos and receivers. Well detailed with scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose/cowl and engine, full color decals, colored tissue, die cut balsa parts, rubber motor, plywood firewall & struts and excellent full size plans. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Aurora Lockheed F-90 Fighter, 1/48, 33-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

The box is in amazing 'near mint' condition with as-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no tape or tape marks, no price tags and no tears. The only flaw is very light corner and edge wear. Hardbox is dated 1958, but the logo tells us that this is a very late 1950 to early 1960s issue since the 'Famous Fighters' is not present in the oval logo but the sunburst still is. This issue has the correct triangle two-piece clear base as well as full landing gear and rockets. Molded in silver and clear. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. This is reissue of one of Aurora's first two kits (F-90 and F9F) which were copies of the Hawk molds.

Matchbox Dornier Do-18 Civil or Military G-1/V-2 - Luftwaffe Calais-based 3/KuFlGr 406 (1940) or 2/KuFlGr 506 Kiel 1938 or Civil D-AANE 'Zyklon' Lufthansa South Atlantic Mail Service (1938), 1/72, PK-409

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Dated 1979. Nicely detailed kit for that time with markings for the three aircraft listed above. Never started. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Please note that one prop shaft (not seen after assembly) is broken off and missing. Easily replaced with stock plastic or pulled sprue. Lufthansa was a pioneer in trans-oceanic mail services and the Do-15 and Do-18 grew to fit this need. Given the German interests in South America, it was no surprise that they established one of the first airmail services between Europe and that continent. This kit will build one of those aircraft, the Lufthansa South Atlantic Mail Aircraft (1938) D-AANE 'Zyklon' or the military version. The Do-18 was an improved D0-15 'Wal' and set several records during it's long useful life.

US Borax Borax Twenty Mule Team and Wagon Death Valley Days - (20 Mule Team), 1/48

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Rare two-box issue. For one reason or another, US Borax started shipping this classic kit in two boxes 'To Ensure Safe Arrival.' The Borax company commissioned this kit as a tie-in to the TV series 'Death Valley Days.' Never started. The black parts are still in the factory sealed bag with instructions. The blue parts bag started to split, but I have inventoried it complete and put the original bag into another bag for safely. Originally a radio program, 'Death Valley Days' had a long run on television and ended as one of the longest running westerns in entertainment history. Very nice kit of the famous borax wagons that would cross 162 miles of Death Valley with 20 mules in the days before the railroad. There was not a single house or other sign of habitation along the route. One leg was 60 miles with no water. The two wagons carried 25 tons of Borax and the mules covered 16 to 18 miles a day with a two man crew. The sturdy wagons were purpose built for the trip. Although they carried huge loads, there is no record of one every being stranded. This kit was primarily sold by direct mail order and was usually sent in a single box; that is how 99% of them I have seen are packed. Admittedly, the parts are really crammed into that one box and damage could result. So this 'two box' system might (I am guessing) have been a result of that. There was also an issue in a full color, larger box but is is almost as rare as the two-box system shown here.
