Berkeley Republic P-47 Thunderbolt Controliner - 21.5 Inch Wingspan, 1-10-295

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Large profile-scale flying model designed to fly a full stunt pattern at 65 miles per hour with a .09 engine. This is a highly prefabricated kit designed for strong, easy construction. Features pre-shaped hollow balsa wings with airfoil, die cut balsa and plywood, all necessary metal hardware, fully finished wheels, full size plans with complete building instructions and full color decals. The kit has never been started. The small parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed (larger wood parts and sheets of wood) have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. Please note that the decals have bug damage to the backing paper but the actual transfers are undamaged. The plans have light, even bug damage as well which will not affect building the kit. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Rare and long out of production. This giant kit features over 300 parts. Many people have converted it to remote control (R/C parts not furnished). The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Please note that the box looks much better than the 'good+' grade but I have graded it as such because there is an approx 7" closed tear on one long side panel. Everything inside is still in factory-mint condition. NOTE: this is such a large kit that it can only be shipped alone (not with other kits). This very large box can be mailed within the USA and some overseas countries; however it cannot ship to certain countries with smaller postal size restrictions.

Halligan Aircraft Co The Halligan Plane Autographed by The Halligan Brothers, H-VR-100

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Very rare and even more so in this condition and signed by the designers - Russell H Halligan and Francis Halligan signed the plans on 8-21-1976. I can only find reference to one of these kits changing hands since 1998. This is an operating model of the Halligan's unique aircraft. Features a 40 foot wingspan, over 79 parts all preformed and ready to assemble including die-cut wood parts, aluminum gears, aluminum shafts (drilled and threaded), aluminum bearings and stabilization bar, metal hardware where required, pre-shaped blades and hubs, fully formed wire landing gear, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, detailed plans, full text instructions and much more. The kit has never been started and is complete with all parts and paperwork. The model includes a news paper article (The Milwaukee Journal, Nov 17, 1979) about the brothers and the aircraft. The Halligan Plane was designed to take off and land without a runway, travel as fast or faster than convention aircraft and to be as easy to operate as the family car. The "Halligan Vertical Rising, Hovering and Self-Stabilizing" rotary wing airplane can do all those things and more say Russel and Francis Halligan. Neither has ever flown in a regular airplane, but the two brothers have spent most of their lives developing the unusual craft, which has flown only a few yards and has not left the ground since about 1930. It makes a great story and the owner of this kit can read all about it in the newspaper article.

William H Low Co 1800s Amoskeag Steamer (Steam Pumper) - Wilo Line Fire Truck, 1/24, FP7

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare. Very highly prefabricated and detailed. Likely from the 1940s. William H Low Co., of Braintree Mass., issued the 'Wilo Line' which included a superb series of antique commercial firefighting equipment. The scale is given as 1/2" and the finished steamer is 8 inches long. The kits were very advanced for the time and shared many of the pre-fabrication methods of Hudson Miniatures. Features plastic injection molded spoke wheels, completely precarved boiler, a vast number of other completely carved and cut large and small wooden parts, numerous completely carved smaller wooden parts, numerous cast metal fittings, working metal bell, hoses, metal stock as needed, sandpaper, complete instructions, a parts layout, photos of the actual steamer and the model under assembly and complete, full size plans. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions/plans. The kits in this line include Amoskeag Steamer, Hose Reel, Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and many others. In most cases they are the only kits in existence of these historic vehicles. Bill Low did design at least one 'non-fire truck' kit in his Will-O-Line - a Conestoga Wagon, advertised as being 1/24 scale, kit #B14 for $2.85 listed as "This is another Museum Piece by Bill Low." After seeing these fire truck kits, I do not doubt that.

UPC Chuck Wagon with Three Figures and Four Animals - (Ex-Revell Miniature Masterpieces, 1/48, 4013-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1960s UPC release from the original Revell 1954 Pre-S molds. Very nicely detailed kit of the classic Chuck Wagon. Features full suspension, rear shelves, back fold-down deck, coffee pot, pot, lamp, bell, accessories, two horses, calf, dog, two men and full suspension detail. Inside, the kit has not been started. The parts and decals are still in the factory sealed bag and it includes the instructions. These molds have a fascinating history. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit - without figures and horses, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. 1954 advertisements from Revell list the complete line as the H506 State Coach of England, H510 Ranch Wagon, H503 Covered Wagon, H502 Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, H504 Roman Racing Chariot, H501 Wells Fargo Stage Coach, H509 Western Figures and H507 Chuck Wagon. I believe that UPC reissued the entire line or at least most of them.

Comet Aeronca Sedan Struct-O-Speed Deluxe Issue, 2301-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Deluxe version; please read carefully. 1960s issue with a 13.25 inch wingspan. Comet would advertise that the Struct-O-Speed series 'Puts Itself Together...That Quick!' on the box top, and it was not a completely idle boast. This exactly model is highly prefabricated and more along the lines of a Speedee-Bilt than a Comet kit. Features a completely machine formed and finished wing with airfoil (like the Monofoil wing), other factory carved parts, die-cut and factory painted balsa sheet parts, a beautiful scale plastic full cowl, plastic prop and thrust bushing, fully formed wire landing gear and prop shaft/rubber hook, finished wheels, rubber motor, complete plans with instructions and even color insignia. Never started and complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
