Lindberg La Flore French Sailing Ship 1771, 1/48, 817-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

1965 hardbox issue in exceptional condition. This is a large-scale, detailed kit for that time featuring over 400 parts, two complete detailed decks of guns, full hull with very nice molded in detail, complete deck fittings, crew members, hinged hatch doors, display stand, preformed ratlines, billowing vacuform sails, rigging line, rigging diagram, flag sheet and highly illustrated instructions. Molded in four colors. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Lindberg history tells of the La Flore's 1771 voyage on a historical naval astronomy expedition. On this voyage were three members of the Marine Academy and the Royal Academy of Science along with two naval time pieces and a variety of other scientific instruments. The voyage proved beyond any doubt the value of chronometers in sea navigation. But there is more history than that. Earlier 'The Flore' took part in the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1759. Later in 1761 she was captured by HMS Unicorn and became part of the Royal Navy; the British gave her the name HMS Flora. The British scuttled the ship off Rhode Island in August of 1778 to avoid capture by the colonists. The enterprising Yankees re-floated the Flore in 1780, repaired her, and sold her back to the French Navy in 1784. The French re-named the ship 'American Flore.' Under the French flag again, she took parts in the Senegal campaigns starting in 1788. The HMS Phaeton captured Flore on September 7, 1798, and she was sold for scrap value.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed. From the 1960s. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern servos and receivers. A very nice kit featuring die cut balsa parts, die-cut plywood firewall, completely finished wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose, rubber motor, hardware, clear window material, very large decal sheet, colored tissue and excellent full size plans. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Aurora Eastern Airlines DC-9 Medium Distance Commercial Jet, 1/72, 357-250

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed. 1966 early issue with Eastern decals. This is still the only injection molded 1/72 scale DC-9 ever produced. The kit is molded in white plastic and includes the clear triangle Aurora 'Globe' stand and stand arm. Please NOTE that the seal has several tiny splits and wear. Someone cut the '250' off the part number - retailers often did this so that they could sell the kit for more, especially out west. While this is a very nice example, the wear to the seal and the missing part numbers on the box make this kit far from 'mint' condition.

Aurora 1903 Rambler Old Timers, 1/16, 575-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

1963 first issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail, full interior, complete suspension and steering linkage, exhaust and more. Molded in gloss yellow, gloss black and with brass plated parts and real rubber tires. Never started. NOTE: Missing one fender support, which is simply a bent cylinder. I have included the correct diameter of wire so you can make your own. Otherwsie inventoried with all other parts and instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

Athearn Ranch Wagon - (ex-Miniature Masterpiece / ex-Revell / Ex- Adams / Ex-Life-Like / ex-UPC), 1/48, K232-49

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare issue from the original 1955 molds. Very highly detailed model includes wagon, accessories, base, four mules and two figures. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts. Includes instructions in excellent condition. This kit certainly has an interesting history. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. At some point soon after that Adams also released this kit. The Athearn release used the exact same Adams box art and simply swapped logos. Eventually these molds ended up being leased or contracted by UPC and in the end Life-Like purchased them.
