Randles Kellett Autogyro YG-1B - XR-2 - Deluxe Prefabricated Version, 1/42, 103-D

Vaccuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$78

Very rare kit from the 1940s. Although it is the same part number as the 'small box' issue, this is the 'large box' deluxe version with much greater prefabrication. This is a large (17 inch LOA) model of this 1930s craft. This unique ship had no ailerons, rudder or elevator. Directional control was through a pivoting rotor head. Rotor blades folded for storage. The KD-1 made the worlds first autogyro roof-top landing in May of 1935 at the US Post Office in Philadelphia. The plans say this is the XR-2 and YG-1B. The plans certainly look like the YG-1B Army Craft; the YG-1B was modified with a constant speed rotor and became the YG-1C; it was then redesignated XR-2. This craft is also known as a KD-1; the model will built any of the three. Features 3D carved hardwood fuselage, cut-to-shape (2D) hardwood rotor blades, machine-carved wheels, 80% carved hardwood propeller, numerous other pre-cut parts that are all either 3D or 2D cut and very good full size, three-view plans. Never started and inventoried complete with all paperwork. Randles was another name for Ranco and may have simply been the deluxe version of the Ranco kits as they shared the same address. Just a few of those kits include the B-29, Cessna Bobcat, Sikorsky Helicopter and Kellett Auto Giro. There is evidence that they made boat kits also.

The Curtiss-Wright XF-87 Blackhawk (previously designated the XP-87) was a prototype American all-weather jet fighter-interceptor, and the company's last aircraft project. Designed as a replacement for the World War II–era propeller-driven P-61 Black Widow night/interceptor aircraft, the XF-87 lost in government procurement competition to the Northrop F-89 Scorpion. The loss of the contract was fatal to the company; the Curtiss-Wright Corporation closed down its aviation division, selling its assets to North American Aviation.

Precision Models 17 cm K.18 Mrs.Laf. Matterhorn - 17 cm Cannon 18 On Mortar Carriage, 1/35, 35011C

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$74

Very rare and award winning model (see box top). The 17 cm Kanone 18 in Mörserlafette (English: 17 cm Cannon 18 on Mortar Carriage and abbreviated as 17 cm K 18 in MrsLaf) was a German heavy gun used during World War II. The 17 cm K 18 in MrsLaf was a 172.5 mm (6.79 in) towed gun with a barrel 50 calibres long. The 17 cm K 18 in MrsLaf shared the same box trail carriage with the 21 cm Mörser 18. The carriage allowed transport of the weapon over short distances in one piece, whilst for longer distances the barrel was removed from the carriage and transported separately. A series of ramps and winches made removing the barrel a reasonably quick task for its time, but still required several hours. For all of the gun's bulk, a full 360-degree traverse could be achieved by two men. This is an excellent high-definition resin model manufactured in Belgium by Precision Models. They produced mostly German subjects, diorama parts and some figures. Jean-Pierre Dirkx was the founder and made many of the masters for Francois Verlinden. Never started and the parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$29

Features fine recessed panel lines, 'good' cockpit, many optional position underside doors and/or exhaust vents, full landing gear and more. Includes decals for multiple aircraft. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Yak-36 was designer Alexander Yakovlev's creation. He was so impressed when he saw the British Short SC.1 perform at Farnborough that he built a test-bed similar to the Hawker Kestrel style. Three prototypes were built, numbered 36,37 and 38. The first flight was in 1966 and it was first displayed to the public at the Domodedovo Air Show in 1967. NATO intelligence was shocked at the appearance of a VTOL aircraft; however they need not have worried as the Yak-36 was unstable and unsuited for combat. However, the experience gained was important to the future development of the much more successful Yak-38 Forger.
