Revell 1915 Ford Model T Sedan Highway Pioneers, 1/32, H42

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

1952 first issue molded in gloss black plastic. This is old hobby shop stock that has not been up for retail sale until this time. Never started. All the parts are still sealed in the factory sealed clear 'krinkle' bag. With instructions. This is an early Gowland manufactured issue with the balloon logo on the side. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Monogram Speedee-Bilt Vought F4U-5 Corsair - Flying Scale Model - (F4U5), G14-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Scale flying wooden rubber powered model from the early 1950s. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa and sometimes a detail part or two. These "Make Wood Look Like Plane" models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually RC). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufacturers sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This raised prices, naturally. Many manufacturers launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original "Speedee-Bilt" kits were in one-piece two-color boxes. In the early 1950s, shortly before plastic kits were available, Monogram changed to the 'hardbox' with a lithographic slick glued to the top as this kit. Speedee-Bilt kits contained die cut and pre painted wooden parts, completely formed airfoil wings, carved wheels and numerous plastic details like the cowling, pilot, missiles, prop and more. Assembly was by detailed full size plans. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

AMT AMT 1965 Mercury Park Lane 2 Door HT Promo, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

Sold

Rare friction motor promotional in excellent condition. This model was obtained in the mid 1960s by a discriminating adult collector in Lexington KY. The promo has never even been displayed or played with . The color and gloss are factory new. The rear bumper chrome is 'very good++' while the front bumper is 'very good' with wear on the ends. There is no body warp and the clear is in 'excellent++' condition. I would grade this one 8 out of 10 with 10 being flawless. The deduction is for very light box roof scuffs and it simply needs cleaned. Does not come with a box.
