Aurora Northrop N-156 (F-5 Prototype) Freedom Fighter, 1/48, 140-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Dated 1962 with fantastic Jo Kotula box artwork. However, the lack of the 'Famous Fighters' in the border of the logo tells us that this issue is from around 1963-'65. Excellent condition box. Kit includes pilot, cockpit and instrument panel and three drop tanks and early AIM-9 Sidewinder Air-to-Air Missiles. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the decals are 100% intact but have some very fine visible age cracking. This kit is a very good representation of the rare 'Freedom Fighter' prototype N-156. It developed into the F-5, which was widely exported and saw service in over 30 countries. Only three of the N-156 prototypes were built. The design centered around two GE J85 turbojets which originally powered the ADM-20 Quail decoy carried by the B-52 fleet. Initially there seemed to be little demand until President Kennedy's Military Assistance Program required a low-cost fighter that could be provided to US Allies. The N-156 was easily the top choice. It was renamed the F-5 and the rest is history - it became one of the most widely used fighter/bombers in post-WWII history and is still in service in some air forces.

MPM Republic XP-47H Super Thunderbolt, 1/72, 72017

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

Sold

Still factory sealed. The 16-cylinder 490 mph Super Thunderbolt! This radical craft was designed to test the Chrysler XIV-2220-1 liquid-cooled inverted 'V-16' engine. Two P-47D airframes were set aside for modification by Republic at Evansville under subcontract to Chrysler. The airframe was redesigned from the firewall forward and under the belly from the nose to the radiator to a point aft of the rear gas tank. A GE CH5 Turbo Supercharger was installed in the lower rear fuselage. Final drive was through a 14 foot diameter Curtiss propeller. Many problems were encountered with the engine, so the aircraft did not fly till after the war in Europe on July 26th, 1945. Twenty-seven test flights were made including one at 30,000 ft that reached 490 mph. Limited run model that features recessed panel line detail.

Billing Boats Bluenose II Racing Schooner - Plank on Frame Wood Ship, 1/100, 600

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Still factory sealed. Scale model of this world-famous and beautiful schooner originally from 1929. 1:100 scale kit measures 16.93"H x 20.47"L x 3.35"W. From the Billing website - "All of the 600 Series Model Boat Kits (item numbers 600-609) include an easier way of building the hull. The hull is assembled in halves, on a table. This allows for easier assembly and is quite useful in learning plank-on-frame or plank-on-bulkhead construction! Once each half is done you join the two for a completed hull. Make sure you work each half in opposite directions so that when joined they marry up evenly!" The schooner Bluenose has a very special place in the history of navigation and yachting. Built to fish off the Newfoundland coast, the ship soon turned out to be such a fast sailer that she won all the great classical regattas along the USA's Eastern coast. She was built in Nova Scotia in 1929, and shipwrecked near Haiti in 1946. A true copy - Bluenose II - was launched in 1964.
