Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$325

1958 release of this kit featuring classic Jo Kotula boxart. The large 1/48 scale missile comes with a fully operational scale launcher. The hardbox has very good color and gloss, four solid corners, no price tag or tape tears and no torn or missing litho. Flaws include the scratch at the top and general wear and edge & corner wear as shown. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts. Includes decals and instructions in 'very good+' condition. This kit must be shipped insured. The Aurora "Missile Line" is legendary. In the late 1950s, the first missile model kits sold briskly, so Aurora and Revell both planned extensive lines. However, the missile modeling craze disappeared as quickly as it started. Models that were in the works were canceled or completed if they were far enough along. Those that were completed were fine efforts but sold poorly and had very short lives, making them rare collector items today.

Adams USMC Winnie the Whale LVT(A)(4), 1/40, K157-149

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$135

Very rare 1958 high-quality model and the original issue from Adams. Features working bogies, flexible tracks, crew of two, four soldiers and more. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The box displays better than the 'very good+' grade but is rated as such because there is a small, narrow litho tear on the left short side. These molds must have had a very interesting history. The molds were cut in the late 1950s, either at Adams or by one of Revell's contractors. It appeared to be part of the Adams/Revell 1/40 line but only Adams issued the kit. UPC (Universal Power Master) had use of these molds in the 1960s are perhaps the early 1970s; however, the molds were probably in Japan as most if not all the UPC production occurred there. Around this point, SNAP plastics of Hillside, New Jersey acquired this kit along with many of the other ex-Adams military molds. While the UPC issues say 'Made in Japan' the SNAP issues say nothing of the origin of the manufacture; so perhaps they were made in New Jersey. Things get even more interesting with the Life-Like issue. How Life-Like came across the molds is unfortunately unknown but it may have been in a bulk-purchase of molds from SNAP since there were in the same general part of the country. This is simply conjecture, however.

$295

Very rare, one and only issue dated 1960. When Monogram invested in the tooling for the 18 aircraft "Air Power" set, the sales did not meet expectations. In order to increase revenue from the molds, Monogram issued three separate kits- the "Refueling Group," "Bomber Group" and "Fighter Group" in the "Forty Niner" series with the Tu-16 Badger, F-101 and P-40. These kits utilized aircraft from the Air Power set with special blue-molded display stands, unique decals and instructions. The two aircraft are well molded with recessed panel line detail. Decals are in amazing 'near mint' condition and the instructions in 'near mint+' condition. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Airfix Fairey Rotodyne - Type 2 Logo Issue, 1/72, 482

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

The Rotodyne flew at up to 191 MPH with a range of 450 miles and a payload of 48 passengers or 5 tons of freight. Despite the excellent performance and a larger design in the works, the RAF never placed an order and BEA never placed a firm order. The project was discontinued in 1962.

Hudson Miniatures 1913 Mercer Raceabout - Lil Old Timers Quickie Kit, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$36

Rare. When the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' burst upon the hobby scene in 1951, they started a hobby revolution. Plastic model kits were not new in 1951, but successful marketing had never been done before. The sensation swept the country, and Gowland & Revell could not make the kits fast enough. The fact that the public was buying these models shocked the existing hobby establishment. One such manufacture was Hudson Miniatures. In the 1940s, Hudson had established a name in making 1/16 scale 'Old Timer' models of automobiles. These were excellent kits with wood and metal parts, but a high degree of skill was required to finish the wood parts. In the late 1940s, they added some injection molded plastic parts (usually acetate wheels and lamps) to the series but the rest of the kit remained wood. When Hudson saw what was happening with the Highway Pioneers, he began to design his own 1/32 scale line of all-plastic cars called 'Lil Old Timers', which hit the stores in 1954. An early paper fold-out catalog shows 18 models including some real gems like the 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1911 Brush Delivery Truck and 1906 Columbia Electric Car just to name a few. The line was bought by Revell a short time after it's release, and Revell did reissue some (but not all) of the kits. As you would expect from Hudson, this is a nice kit with excellent moldings and detail for the time. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. The Mercer was perhaps the most famous sports car of it's day, and it can be successfully argued that it was America's first sports car. The 30 horsepower 'T' head 4 cylinder engine sped it along at over 80 miles per hour. A 1914 Mercer clocked 112 mph at Daytona Beach - no mean feat for that age.

Pyro 1909 Lozier Briarcliff - Vintage Brass Car Series, 1/32, C455-125

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$40

1967 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of the kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Lozier was a large four cylinder T-Head rated at 45 horsepower. The wheelbase was 124 inches and she rode on huge 36 x 4.5 tires. This Pyro car model is based on a car that was owned by Thomas J Lester of Chagrin Falls, Ohio that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated, colored and clear plastic parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions.
