Revell USS Yorktown CV-5 Aircraft Carrier, 1/490, H383

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1969 issue. The Yorktown was one of three prewar sister carriers along with Enterprise (CV-6) and Hornet (CV-8). The Yorktown saw extensive action in the Coral Sea, the first sea battle in which opposing forces did not sight each other from warships. At Midway she fought alongside Enterprise and Hornet to help sink 4 Japanese carriers, but was lost after the battle after an epic struggle to save the ship. Very nicely molded model. Features internal hangar decks (fore and aft) that are visible through side hangar doors, 20 Douglas SBD Dauntless airwing (well molded with raised panel lines and propellers), full decals, 20" long full hull, movable cranes, separately molded AA guns and catwalks and optional position elevators. The box art shows the prewar high-vis finish, and decals are included for prewar markings for the ship and aircraft. For that time, this kit does a good job of representing the detailed differences between the Yorktown and Hornet & Enterprise. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Cleveland Kling's Folkerts Speed King Racer 'Jupiter Pride Of Lemont' - Wooden Flying Aircraft, 1/16, SF-71

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Dated 1937. Early issue in the cardboard box with 'Cleveland World Famous Models' printed in silver, which is in unusually good condition. This kit came from a discriminating collector who purchased this model new directly from Cleveland in September of 1955 and was received in October. The kit is still factory-packed with pages from the "Cleveland Plain Dealer" newspaper dated June 29, 1955. This is a "SF" (Scale, Flying) model in museum scale of 1/16. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. This kit is specifically designed as a scale model with retractable landing gear. However, if you do wish to fly it, additional instructions are provided on the necessary modifications. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, pre-drilled nose block, fully formed wheels, thrust button & spinner, completed prop blades, various sizes of metal stock, covering material and highest quality plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter- Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Pyro Flintlock Dueling Pistol 1776, 1/1, C229-150

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

NOTE: only includes one pistol. The other one is missing. The one has never been started and is complete with all parts and instructions. Hardbox issue from about 1966. Very nice full size (1/1 scale) model. Molded in wood brown and gun metal silver. In addition to cars, ships, planes and figures, Pyro added an excellent line of well-known and not-so-well-known life-sized (1/1) scale pistol and rifle models to their line. In each case Pyro gained access to the actual weapon during the kit design, insuring a very accurate model. This is a full size model is based on actual examples made in 1776 in Charleville, St. Etienne, France. At that time, the Flintlock was the ominous firearm known. It worked on the 'Snaphance' type action in which a flint, held by two jaws of the hammer, snaps forward to spark against the steel of the powder pan at the pull of the trigger. The maximum range of the .65 caliber shot was about 120 feet. At that distance, however, the best you could do is knock your adversary off balance. At 60 to 80 feet, the gun was deadly. Consequently, the number of paces in a duel was decided upon the depth of the insult and the degree of friendliness between the duelers.

Fador 1905 White Steamer, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Dated November of 1949. Very well detailed for that time. Features a large number of die-cut, machined and saw cut wooden parts as well as excellent plastic wheels, headlights, steering wheel, horn and lanterns. There are also metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock parts. Includes full-size, superb fold-out instructions with multiple elevation drawings, numerous detail drawings and templates, two photos of the completed model and extensive instructions. The kit has never been started. Inventoried with all parts present. Fador was another maker of big 1/16 classic cars and competed with the bigger Hudson Miniatures. Fador called the line 'Smallersters' and the design & parts breakdown of the kits are very similar. The full name was Fador Mfg. Company and the address was 501E. Clinton St., Elmira, NY. Hudson Miniatures, launched in 1948, apparently beat Fador to the market by at least a year or more. Hudson's national success probably lead Fador to choose the same subject (antique cars) and in the same scale, 1/16. Hudson snatched up the most obvious classic automobiles for kit subjects, forcing Fador to select very carefully. Fortunately, they chose well and they are still the only models ever made of these subjects. There is no record of Fador making any plastic kits; the introduction and overwhelming popularity of the Revell/Gowland Highway Pioneers and the models that quickly followed probably drove them out of the market. This was the fate of most wooden kit manufacturers who did not make the transition. In 1949 the Fador line consisted of a 1909 Hupmobile Roadster, 1904 Cadillac Runabout, 1905 REO 4 Passenger Runabout and one kit that was "3 In 1' - it made one of the following: 1909 EMF Single Rear Seater, 1909 EMF Touring or EMF Roadster. The Baker Electric kit was introduced in 1950 and possibly others as well.

Fador 1908 Baker Electric, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare kit dated August of 1950. Very well detailed for that time. Features mainly die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and excellent plastic wheels and lanterns. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Has excellent, large full-size fold-out plans with numerous elevations, a great many detail drawings and extensive instructions. The kit has never been started. The small parts are either still in the internal factory sealed bag or inventoried complete and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. We think of electric cars of new; nothing could be further from the truth. From 1900 to 1915 at least 25 well-known electric car manufacturers advertised vehicles which '...were clean, quite, stylish and easy to operate - the only car for a lady.' And how true this was! Early automobiles were notoriously noisy with dirty exhaust and the constant requirement to handle smelly gasoline by hand. The Baker Electric was one of the longer ranged models - when all six batteries were fully charge it could travel about 75 miles - acceptable even today for a commute. The wheelbase was 80 inches and it had a convertible top that could be lowered or raised.
